Re: Ukranian Nuclear Power Plant on Fire

[ Edited ]

@Lucky Charm  My memory of what happened, meaning what the US was saying, during the build up at the border was not something that seemed very threatening - even to me!  Talk is talk especially to someone like a putin - calculations take place - how long will it be before the sanctions are actually felt - how long will I need to take the country, these sorts of things.  I can imagine anyway. Weapon shipments were delayed for some time.  Oil money had been rolling in to Russia, as we and others chose to rely on them more and more and the money was banked for this sort of rainy day.  I think "we" never thought he would actually do this, yes?   Seems pretty clear that was probably the case.  Plus, I'm sure he's felt pretty comfortable "knowing" that no other country will want to engage in actual battle once he invaded.

I didn't mean to scare anybody with my previous post - I only wanted to point out that there is true strength in numbers  - moreso before the event than after tho.  That not standing up for someone else in order to protect ourselves, does not ensure our own safety.  And who will be there to stand up for us?

My heart is breaking.  I admire the ukranian people so much Heart

Re: Ukranian Nuclear Power Plant on Fire

We are confronted with what seems to be an interesting dilemma.  As a species, do we live or die?  Does the earth continue as a planet in our solar system, or will it just become dust particles circulating around the sun?  Does anyone remember the 1983 movie called "WarGames"?  Well, in this movie there is a precocious kid who accidentally finds on the internet a site that has what he believes are the nuclear warfare computer codes.  The computer couldn't actually launch nuclear warfare as it could only be done by humans.  However, it could do simulations.  And it does, with every possibility. First strike, second strike, etc. and it learns that it is a no win game.  No one wins, everyone loses.

So, there a good reason why no one wants to risk starting a nuclear war, namely WWW III by shooting down Russian planes over Ukraine.  We have been here before.

Re: Ukranian Nuclear Power Plant on Fire

Just watched ABC world news (am not watching 24 hrs a day) and all I can say is that poor president of Ukraine looks so worn down.

Read on here he avoided at least 3 attempts on his life.   So far?  How harrowing that must be.

He's so scared for his people.  He's begging for help.  I don't think it's coming fast enough, unfortunately.

Putin will not use nuclear weapons.  He is smarter than that.  So is Kim Jong-un.   They like to play with leaders of other countries and don't give a hoot about their own people, but know what the bottom line is.
