@sidsmom   It isn't up to Wal-Mart to determine what duties he can perform.

Wal-Mart is lacking in understanding here; to just toss him into some position doesn't meet the criteria for dealing with his disability.

Legally blind?  Physically disabled?  No.  No register duties would be acceptable.

A photo lab assistant?  Maybe, if his position would be to greet customers and only that. 

People are assuming he should just accept "something"; that is a "bass-ackward" way of thinking.

Legally blind.  Physically disabled.  What part of that do people not understand?

Yes @Cakers3 and @sidsmom  Walmart knows that Adam will have to refuse these positions.

They just want to be able to say that we have offered and he has turned us down.

Hope some other business can employ Adam because it looks like he will have to leave in 2 months.

Or being more positive & not being a Negative Nelly,

maybe Walmart sees more potential in this young man....

more potential than he sees in himself. Maybe learning new skills

would enrich his life, as well. Obviously they’ve been with him

for a number of years. 

And he doesn’t “have to” refuse anything. 

Obviously many commenting on this has never worked

for a large corporation. And for the better part of all

employment everywhere, there’s not much negotiating

job duties when offering said particular job. 

Hopefully someone with a positive outlook will guide

this young man to try new things...and hopefully he will

not be foolish & leave without exploring new opportunities.

That is great news if he has been offered a job elsewhere. Walmart is violating the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). Employers must make reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities. He could have been a greeter sitting down as well as standing up. He could just keep doing his job as he has been.  If WM wanted to accommodate him so he could do his job, they would. They can't hide behind "company policy". A real lame excuse. Too bad they are such a big company; they will never feel the pain of a boycott; it would take a million people to stop buying there. The greeters at my Walmart are usually asleep.....

The ADA is the name of the law, it is not an agency. I find this so shameful and Walmart must have a big enough legal dept to know this is illegal!
I hope he sues for discrimination due to his disability and then never works there again...he should be somewhere he is treated with respect....obviously that isn't Walmart.

I also have a child with CP. The truth is , my husband and I know our child will never be able to do certain things. She is better off than this boy at WM. We do know as her parents..it's our obligation to provide for her, ourselves. Most parents of the disabled know this.

So do people here think that Walmart should never be able to eliminate a type of job? Because that's whats happening here. They are just doing away with greeters everywhere. Many of the greeters will be able to transition. Hopefully they can find something for this kid to do but retail is a tough place for anyone with physical disabilities.

I never understand all of the grief that Walmart gets compared to other places. I used to work retail. Worked nights, weekends and overnights when trucks came in. Worked holidays. Worked on Thanksgiving before there was ever an uproar about stores being open on Thanksgiving. Almost every employee is part-time and making minimum wage when they start. Nationwide chain and I've never heard a peep about how awful they are.And I never complained because it was the job I willingly took at the time. Actually I like the diverse schedule and the overitme on holidays.
