My regular carrier is awesome. But when she goes on a vacation or a day off... it is "all bets off" if my mail or packages get delivered to me and not neighbors or people with my same street address somewhere else.
As for UPS, they seem to do it right. When FED EX is a hand off to the local post office not so good. The more opportunties to switch delivery carriers the more likely there will be a problem. And I know there is not enough space here to explain all the fun I have had with deliveries.

hail, no! Mine does what has already been mentioned...stuffs a very big package onto the box, and I'm out there tearing at it with everything I've got, my nails dug into the sides, trying to get it free!

Yes, it sounds like the carrier was lazy and not doing his job correctly. I'm not making excuses for him, but please keep in mind that you have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. Post office has a lot of issues just like any other place. Lots of demands made on employees, more parcels to deliver every day, and timelines have to be met. So just try and be patient but I would definitely talk to your post master.
@funinthesunLots of demands on employees is our problem? Wow! Maybe the post office should be running more efficiently, you think? Postal workers cannot survive in other environments where people actually are expected to do their job or get reprimanded and even lose their job if they don't improve! We all have their union to thank for the deplorable attitude of some of these postal workers...the laid back attitude of punching a clock and counting down the years, months, days until retirement; physically there but mentally not. Disgusting.

@SharkE I much prefer going to my local Rite Aid for my RX's. I like the people that work there and they know me.
Unfortunately my health insurance carrier decided that all regular monthly maintenance medications now must be ordered in 90 day supplies and done through mail order. It has been one gigantic headache since then. I can't, and won't, pay full price though so my only option is to play the mail order pharmacy game.

I used to have horrible delivery when I lived in the big city. Now that I live in a pretty rural community my mail carrier is awesome! She greets us by name, will drive up our long driveway and leave any package on our back porch. If I see my package is at the PO and not yet delivered, I just stop by and pick it up! Rural living rules!!

Carriers are like every other job - there are good ones and morons. Last place I lived, I had a carrier with a really bad attitude and tough to deal with but I moved and this guy seems to be a happy soul who, so far is great. Always a good attitude and apparently has had this route for a very long time according to neighbors. Because I've had horrible carriers in the past, I always try to be extra polite to this one - - cuz "he's a keeper"!
I love that if he drops a package at the door, he rings the bell so if you are there you know it's been delivered, and again, such a happy guy. Last place, not so much!

I always know when our regular carrier is off.
If it's a day of junk mail only, we won't get any mail at all.
If it's mixed mail, it's shoved in the box, lid left open and you practically have to rip the mail box off the front of the house to get it out.

@Nicknack wrote:I can so relate to this. My mail problems are usually on the weekend and not with my regular carrier. Today, though, I had a package stuffed in my mailbox that should have been brought to my door. I had to get the scissors and a knife and bend the package down to get it out. This has happened several times before. Next time I will do as someone else in this thread suggested and take a picture of it and take it to the post office.
I'm sorry but I am laughing so hard at this 'cause I know just what you're saying and I'm picturing it in my mind and I start laughing all over again.

I know I am. I'm going to wait for him by the mailbox. Neither wind nor snow nor sleet nor rain will deter me.
I love the good ol' days when the mailbox was on the house and they HAD to bring the mail to the door. And they were nice mailmen and always the same one.

I had an issue with my carrier a few weeks ago. I had a package on the porch that was scheduled for USPS pick up. It was out there where it was supposed to be. I heard my ring motion sensor chime (not the doorbell) while I was in the kitchen. I hurried to the door and saw a piece of paper stuck in between the jam and door. I pulled it out and it said package was not on porch, no pickup.
WHAT??
I looked at the recording and SAW HER PICK UP THE PACKAGE!
I went out front and she was at another of the central mailboxes down the street. I called out to her several times and she didn't respond. I managed to run all the way down to her with the paper in hand. I asked her to explain and she said that there was no package...sorry.
I told her I had a video of her taking the package and I was immediately going home to call our postmaster. Which I did. She came back about ten minutes later and admitted to picking the package up. Ya'think? I have you on video woman!
We apparently now have a different mail carrier.
