UPS Sent One Package Back to QVC! The REST of the Story!

Last week I outlined some of my UPS woes:  We were going out of town and I had packages redirected to UPS store in town.  They said they were filled up and wouldn't take more packages, UPS wouldn't change them back to our address (couldn't go out of town as planned) and the sat in a warehouse 17 miles from my house.

One sweet UPS lady in the ware house found 2 and simply marked them for delivery to me at my house--with a Sharpie marker and handed it to a driver!  LOL!!  Mr. Unwilling to do so computer wasn't involved.

Now a third package is one its way back to QVC.  It sat at the warehouse over Christmas and back it went!  I have  never heard of them simply dumping something in a warehouse almost 20 miles away and saying "Come get it or else!"

I wonder if the local UPS store was refusing packages for hold or if it really WAS full?  Odd way to conduct business I think.

Hubby has some electrical equipment coming 2nd day air.  It was mailed the 23d and is to be delivered Wed.  the 28th!  LOL!!!  We'll see!!!!!

Re: UPS Sent One Package Back to QVC! The REST of the Story!

I've only re-directed one package to the UPS store.  It was in September.  I was going out of town and my online order (from another company) was taking forever to get to me.  Eventually it gave me a delivery date when I would be out of town, so I changed it online to go to the UPS store.

The day it was delivered, I got the email notification and called the UPS store and spoke to the owner.  I told him I was out of town and would pick it up on X day.  He actually wrote it on the box.

When my plane landed, I had a voicemail from the UPS store that said if I didn't come to get the package by that night before closing, they were shipping it back.  I called them from the airport to explain that I had called and told them I would pick it up on X day.

She said, "oh, yeah, I see he wrote that on the box.  We normally only hold items for one day."

Seriously?  One day?

What was in the box was no big deal and wasn't expensive, so if they did ship it back, I would not have bothered with it.

That may have been that particular store's policy.  If I do need to re-direct a package again, I will use another UPS store.  I have 3 in my area to choose from.

The UPS Stores are usually franchises and are free to do their own thing.

I have heard of picking up packages at the UPS delivering terminal.  I didn't even know you could change delivery to a UPS store. Do you have a mailbox there? One day allowed for pick ups seems harsh.  But... they only have so much room.

Re: UPS Sent One Package Back to QVC! The REST of the Story!

Anytime I am going away I call my UPS center and request they hold my packages from this day until that day and they are happy to do it.  I go to the USPS and fill out ahold form and they are happy to hold everything.  I do this anytime I go even if I am not expecting a delivery because my backorders used to have a way of shipping while I am away.   It is strange to read all of the delivery horror stories here because I have not had a problem with either companies in 40+ years and many different drivers.  I guess it is another perk to living out here in the country away from big city hubs.  When they deliver in foul weather they put my bags or boxes in a plastic bag and set beside the porch door.

Re: UPS Sent One Package Back to QVC! The REST of the Story!

I try not to order something when I'm going away.  If I do, I have someone pick it up off my porch.  Changing the routine doesn't seem to work well for me, so I don't do it.
