7:57 pm and poor UPS guy just delivered a package. Used a flashlight to walk up to my door. Geez, I thought now that Christmas is over they'd be home in their jammies this time of the evening.

Transit and delivery times have been very slow.  I've heard on the news they're transporting a huge number of returns.

UPS and Amazon deliver in the 9pm hour here.

Six months from now he won't need his flashlight to deliver at this hour. Meanwhile, would people rather have their delivery postponed an extra day, just because it's dark?

I'm probably in the minority but, yes, I'd rather have my delivery a date later, rather than some poor guy delivering it in the dark.  I'm so rural, I'd be surprised if he could find my drive at night, let alone negotiate my very long drive.  No street lights here of any kind!

We had a snowstorm this past week and I'd gone out to plow my drive around 10:00 the next morning.  We'd gotten about 10 inches of snow and it was still snowing, but easing off.

To my amazement up my 710-foot drive came a FedEx van!  I told him I couldn't believe he'd driven up through that and he said the vans were really good in the snow.  And then proceeded to almost get stuck in front of my plow truck!

We were able to get his van over far enough for me to plow around him and then down the drive, so he could get back out.  I had to give him credit for getting the job done, but I'd rather these drivers stay safe in storms.

I get 7pm, even 8pm all the time.  It's not at all uncommon in this area.

Personally yes I'd rather have it the next day, morning or afternoon. Too often packages have sat out there all night because I don't always open my door and look outside before I hit the sack to see if any deliveries were made without me knowing it. Last night if I hadn't pulled back the curtain and looked out the window to see if the rain had started yet and saw the truck and him walking up the driveway it probably would have sat out there in the rain all night because God forbid he should ring the doorbell.

My UPS guy rarely delivers before 8PM these days.  I'd much rather wait a day and have a more reasonable delivery time.

UPS doesn't do that anymore.  If something is scheduled to be delivered on a certain day, that means it is on the truck and the driver has to deliver it.  8pm isn't late at all and if you go to the UPS website, you can track how far out the guy is.  Also, if you sign up for My UPS, you get text messages telling you when the package has been delivered.  The text comes minutes after the deliver the package, so if the driver left it, you can go out and retrieve it.  UPS is doing their part but we still have to do our part too.  If you know you are expecting a package on a specific date and you know UPS delivers late and you choose to go to bed without looking....well....that's your choice.  You own whatever happens if you don't go out and get your package.   However, if you want to avoid that.  Track your packages and have your deliveries go to one of the UPS Access Points.  They are local businesses in our own neighborhoods.  They will hold them for up to a week, pick them up at your convenience.

I got one UPS delivery sometime during the night right before Christmas Day. I was expecting the delivery that day and checked my porch about 11pm and it still hadn’t come. Went to bed and DH found it on the front porch around 6 am the next morning when he went out to get his newspaper. When I sign up to be notified of delivery, it is hit or miss.
