Re: UPDATE ON HEADACHES, ETC

p.s.  Wishing you well, O/P.

Finding out the cause is a step in the right direction.

It could be a simple, easy-to-remedy reason.

The best of luck to you.  Heart

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Re: UPDATE ON HEADACHES, ETC

@dennylilly   I will definitely pray for you.  You have a lot going on and I hope the MRI goes well.  I hope by the time your vacation comes things will be resolved in your favor and that some solution is found.

Can you/will your doctor let you take any over-the-counter pain reliever meanwhile.  Dealing with a "moving" painful headache of unknown cause is likely heightening your understandable feelings of fear.

I’m surprised your doctor didn’t give you something for the headaches until you could get to the bottom of what’s causing them.

They are assessing her to find out the cause of the headaches so, they need to determine the cause of headaches; the location; the timing.  A whole lot of things and masking it with a pain medication won't allow them to do that.  The pain is only symptom, the patient and her care team need to know what the cause is before they can even think about treatment.

There are medications other than 'pain medications'.  Until she gets her MRI, I don't see why she can't be made more comfortable.  The medication isn't going to affect the results of the MRI.

Re: UPDATE ON HEADACHES, ETC

Update: went to my Opthamologist today for my yearly appointment.  My vision is 20/20 (very nearsighted and this is corrected) catracts fine, no sign of Macular degeneration or Glaucoma- both things my mother has and has lost most of her vision from and is genetic.  I was half hoping for the headaches to be something to do with my vision-- but realize how blessed I am that my vision is still so good at this age and with this family history.  Just wanted to give some good news and also state i am counting my blessings and waiting patiently for my sleep study and MRI on Tuesday.

I also started the Flonase again today.  I don't see much difference but I will continue now that I realize it was not causing the headeaches.

Thanks everyone!

****** Van ****** had the worst headaches for several years ---- the dentist realized his implants caused it. Google it.

They blocked the actors name -- don't know why!!!!!!!!! He was on tv many times talking about his headaches. His brother was Jerry VD (who passed away a few yrs ago).

Re: UPDATE ON HEADACHES, ETC

@dennylilly

Yes, migraines can start all of a sudden.  Some people experience what is called an "aura" prior to start of pain, but many don't - the pain just starts.  I've only had an aura 3 times and on one of those occasions I was driving home at night after a performance and I went blind!!!  Boom!  All of a sudden blackness.  Instantly, I knew it was an aura, but could not stop my car or I'd get hit from behind.  Then in about 30 seconds, a teeny opening occurred in my vision in the center and I saw blurry red.  I realized those blurry reds were the back lights of the car in front of me!  I had been praying so hard I cannot tell you.  So my prayers were answered.  After driving about 2 miles on Mission Gorge Road in San Diego, and 50 feet prior to my right turn for home, my vision totally returned.  By the time I got into the house, my head hurt like heck, which was actually a huge spike in the grade 2-3 pain I have every day.  That's how auras work.

A big question for you is this:  Do you have headache on one side of your head only?  Like the left side or right side only?  Or, perhaps the back of your head only?  This is more typical, but not always, of a migraine headache.  Migraine can also involve the face and eye, on one side, as it does me.  Aside from pain on the left head, I have lacerating pain across the brown area, which turns down through the eye, then turns through my maxillary sinus.  If it's really bad, my left lower face and over to mid lips become numb.

If your pain is global, i.e., involves your entire head, this needs to be ferreted out by a headache specialist.  A PCP would probably tell you, "Oh, that's just a stress headache."

Never, ever take "stress headache" as THE answer for your headaches.

God Bless. Let us know how your MRI turned out.

Re: UPDATE ON HEADACHES, ETC

Could the pain possibly be a jaw joint (TMJ) dysfunction?  For decades I was having severe headaches and I was finally diagnosed with TMJ problems as well as migraines.

I sure hope you find the answer and get relief soon.

I had an MRI scheduled for yesterday and upon arriving I was told someone made a mistake and the person needed to do the type of MRI I need was gone for the day and they only do these type of MRI on Tuesdays,  So I had to leave and have to wait till next week. This did not go over too well, but I am over it.  LIving with a headache every day, (some days way better than others, but everyday I have it), is not easy mainly because I don't know what is wrong with me.  Trying to live life in the meantime but with a vacation in a couple weeks and other things going on, I am frozen with fear alot of the time and clinging to God and His promises to get me through whatever I am facing.  THanks for being there for me and if you are a praying person, please include me in yours.

The same day of my MRI I am also getting the sleep study my Dr wants.  I stopped the Flonase because it can CAUSE headaches but I'm thinking I should maybe start it again. Have my annual eye appt tomorrow so maybe he will figure something out to do with my eyes.  At this point and actually all along I am not able to pinpoint where it hurts.  IT seems to move around and come and go.  UGH!

Thanks for being there and giving me your thoughts and suggestions.  I always appreciate it.

@dennylilly   I once had a neverending headache accompanied by nausea and after a negative CT scan and weeks of suffering, lost ten pounds, an MRI was ordered.  I had a sinus infection.  I had no other symptoms such as runny nose, etc., so no one guessed.

When I went to the ER and had the CT, after that was negative, four different doctors tried to persuade me to have a spinal tap, and to that I replied, NO WAY!  Good thing I followed my instincts or I would have gone through that suffering for nothing.

its so wierd, my headache comes and goes and seems to move around.  It feels like the back of my head now most of the time.  Lower by my neck kind of.  It does make me feel nauseous off and on.  At some points during the day I think its comepletly gone, FINALLY! But it always comes back.  Most of the time it is mild.  I've been able to live a normal life so not feeling too bad.  Even rearranged furniture today. As long as I keep the terminal diagnoses fears out of my mind I can function.  This waiting game has made me realize I cant spend this time in fear. This is really ruining the summer so far. We finally got warm weather this week and I'm not really enjoying it.

Thanks for your response!
