Two weather records broken, two more predicted this week.

My state of Colorado has broken two weather records and two more are predicted this week. There was a record breaking size hailstone which measured 4.8 inches, about the size of a softball, that fell last week in N.CO. Last week we had record-breaking heat, too. Today and tomorrow will be another two days of record-breaking heat. That will make a total of four broken records all in less than one month. Unbelievable!

Not all that unbelievable given weather records have been kept for such a relatively short period of time.

That would be the last 170 years of the 6000+ that humans have lived on the planet.

A record is still a record, no matter when they started recording the temps

What gets me is not just the number of broken records, but that they all will have occurred in less than a month's time. I think that's noteworthy in itself.

Last summer was miserably wet and this summer has been miserably hot and humid... I don't like wishing time away any more than anyone else, but I'll be glad to see this summer exit... And I sincerely hope the door smacks the heck out of it on its way out... Unfortunately, I suspect we'll be stuck with it for a bit longer than many of us would hope to be...

According to the World Meteorological Organization, the highest registered air temperature on Earth was 56.7 °C (134.1 °F) in Furnace Creek Ranch, California, located in the Death Valley desert in the United States, on July 10, 1913.

And the sad thing...we’ll have this same conversation this winter.

We’ve been warned....climate change is real.

As I always like to say, "Why not err on the side of caution?"  You'd do that for something far less significant or life-altering than climate change, so why not follow a cautious path?

Thus, even if in someone's perceived "long view" none of this matters, what would be the harm in relying less on fossil fuels and being more circumspect when it comes to the world's climate?
