Re: Two Things I Can't Find in Any Grocery Store

After 2 loooong years of no frozen (organic) asparagus spears from Whole Foods, I finally found them at a local Shoprite--yesterday

I don't want to cook fresh, frozen is always easier and tastier and probably better than fresh.

Unfortunately this Shoprite didn't have fresh organic garlic buds, only peeled and packaged, refrigerated (ugh) ones.  So off to another grocer to find those.

Cannot eat sauteed asparagus without garlic!

That was probably the only thing that never came back into stock once the pandemic hit.  I was so happy to find it yesterday.

I have learned, much to my surprise, that a lot of people buy frozen lima beans. Not in my neck of the woods!Woman Embarassed

Around here it's dried ones, especially those huge dried ones.

@hayseed00   I love hash brown patties. Several years ago Ore Ida came out with toaster hash brown patties, so good and so convenient Sadly they have been discontinued.

So how do you cook the patties, in the over, or fry them? I have read that you can cook regular frozen hash brown patties in the toaster but I have never tried that. Trader Joes carries frozen hash brown patties.

I picked up two cans of pumpkin at Wegmans last week, and they had quite a few stocked on the shelves.

And, as I looked for the frozen vegetables I wanted, I saw frozen lima beans.

I hope you find all you are looking for soon.

@SharkE Don't know if you like to cook, but this is the butterscotch topping I make for ice cream sundaes:

1 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup butter

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 tsp vanilla

Stir brown sugar, cream, butter, and salt in saucepan over low heat until butter is melted.  Bring to a simmer over medium heat and stir for about 3 minutes.  Take off heat and stir in vanilla.  The sauce gets thicker as it cools.

yeah, I tried making one time and it was thick as mud and couldn't stir it

I had to pitch out. LOL don't know how to get that smooth consistency

@SharkE it might have cooked too long.  If I simmer it too long, it turns rather chewy.

We are originally from Western NY state and grew up enjoying Grandma Brown baked beans. We were thrilled when Wegmans opened in our town but sadly, they no longer can get them.  We really miss them😕

I have family still living in the Buffalo NY area.  Last winter my sister sent me some Weber's Horseradish Mustard ... remember that?

Canned shrimp and frozen lima beans.

Local stores here usually have canned shrimp but it's hard to find frozen baby lima beans. Only 1 store sometimes carries them and they sell out fast. I just bought a bag. I like to add them to stews in the fall/winter or just fix as a side.

Re: Two Things I Can't Find in Any Grocery Store

The news keeps harping that very soon we are going to have significant food shortages.  I wish they wouldn't do this.  It just creates panic and hoarding of food.  Not good at all. During the beginning of covid, it made it so hard for many of us to get paper products -- searching for t.p., cleaning supplies, etc.  People were stockpiling things and then others of us were not able to get any.  The media creates a lot of issues which just don't need to happen.  Even if food shortages happen ---- does it make it better to alarm us all and cause fear and chaos?  No!  We can't do anything about it --- we're not in control of it all!

So far, I am finding things which I need.  However, as we all know, the prices are much higher.  I look for store brands and generic whenever I can and even these things have risen in price.

I never heard of canned shrimp.  It doesn't  sound appetizing.  I use frozen shrimp in place of frozen
