If I know someone is behind me I put the bar down. If I don't see that there is, I don't so the cashier doesn't have it pick up an unused one. Sheesh.

I do too, but not because I'm being courteous to the next shopper. Especially when there's nobody in line behind me.

I do it out of habit, so the checker knows when they get to the end of my order.

I make an effort to be patient with people on their phones in checkout lines who aren't paying attention to what is going on but it can be annoying when it affects my checkout experience in a negative way.  It isn't hard to be more cognizant of what's going on around us that helps eveyone get out the door feeling good.
