I didn't realize the bottom of the swamp grass was 3 feet under water.

Flash floods in the blink of an eye are deadly.  We have to be careful in my neck of the woods even with slight rain.

There is one area that has flood marker that goes up to 20 feet.  I can't imagine even going near that area.

@OKPrincess, no I didn't get swept away but I killed a 6 week old car with 800 miles on it.  It was brackish water I went into.

The police wouldn't bring their jeep in close to me, so I had to walk out of it and the tow truck had to wait until the water receded to pull the car out.

What a scare but terrible about a new car 🚙 too.

@Cakers3, technically, no - it had overflowed onto and over the road.

Re: Turn Around, Don't Drown

At one point I traveled throughout two counties for my job.

Many days during brief but heavy, or sustained rains, I saw floating cars!

I never understood the number of drivers that approach a pool of water in a low laying area and decide to try to motor through it.

It was usually the bigger, heavier vehicles floating.

People with smaller cars like mine usually had the sense to turn around and find another route.
