In South Texas we don't have any tumbling Tumbleweeds.....😁
We do have "ball moss" that tries to take over trees...

I found a picture online that shows how bad they can be.
Looks just like my friend's house in SE Colorado. He took his front-end loader and moved the weeds so he could get around. But just days later, same thing happened.

When I was little I had a wonderful book about "What a jolly street" and all who lived there and one of the characters was Tommy and the "tumbling tumbleweed" he tied his name to and all the places it went. I LOVED this book and recommend it to all.

I have lived in three cities in NM; we never had a huge prob with tumbleweeds...but we would always gather up some that were the right size and make snowmen men or Christmas trees out of them. They also made really good pumpkins if you sprayed them orange. I guess they could be a fire hazard but never saw that many piled so high they could be a hazard.

@MorningLover Trouble is, those things shed seeds with the slightest touch. Put them in your yard at Christmas and next summer, you have a forest of baby tumbleweeds. They reproduce by tumbling. No one brings them inside for that reason plus they're hard to handle being so thorny.

@Kachina624 When I was a little girl my dad used to play Sons of the Pioneers albums on the stereo all the time! That would have been in the early to mid '60's. I remember that song vividly!

@NEvans2 Mine too and I liked them also. Ken Curtis, who played Festus on Gunsmoke, sang with the Sons of the Pioneers at one time. He and my dad were boyhood playmates in ranch country in Colorado. They met again some years ago at a golf tournament and Ken immediately recognized my dad, although both were then old men.

I watch Gunsmoke all the time. Never cared for Festus with all that crazy way of talking.
I don't think they ever said how Chester got his bum leg. Somebody told me could had been an incident during the Civil war.
The guy who played him sure did a good job of keeping that leg stiff in all scenes. drive me crazy
