We cut down a crab apple tree when we first moved into this house because it was diseased and the cure was to spray the leaves. My concern at that time was my elderly dog getting into the medicine for the crab apple scab. If the treatment would have worked as a root application, I would still have that tree. Took down a glorious silver maple in the back yard because the original owner planted it too close to the fence separating this and the next door neighbors yard and the roots were beginning to damage the neighbor's driveway (caused buckling). I lost a sugar maple to some kind of disease - it was young and my dog was even older.

I have the remaining trees (silver maple in front of house), black walnut in middle of back yard professionally groomed every 3 or 4 years. It's expensive but I don't want to lose any more trees. I have pines too.

There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

When we moved into our home 30 years ago we had over 50 oak trees. Every year they are professionally trimmed. We have had to cut down 5 due to storm damage. We needed the consent of the tree commission. We have planted many shrubs and smaller trees over the years.

I live in a new house and the only trees are the ones I planted. I like trees, but had enough of them in my last house. I had trees along the back of the lot and one fell on my neighbors fence during a storm. My insurance company paid to remove the tree and repair/replace the fence.

We have two huge OAK TREES on the grass parkway in front of the house. We had an ice storm this past winter that really put some heavy weight on them but as quickly as the ice melted the branches bounced back. Our other trees are Bradford Pear.....Crepe Myrtle trees (popular in the South) a huge Nellie R. Stevens Holly .. and two huge Youpon Hollies on each end of the front of the house.
