Re: $Tree says no more stuff from China

A friend of mine bought Temptation K57619 Lazy Susan to display items for a breakfast. It fell apart a few days before the breakfast.

Asked me to take her to Dollar Tree because she saw a demonstration of a display plate on YouTube and liked it. I was surprised to find clear glass plates and bowls made in Canada. She bought three clear glass plates and three clear small glass bowls along with E6000 adhesive and I glued the plates to the bowls and they were a hit. Had a few other people ask me to do the same for them.

All of the other plates were also made in Canada along with mugs and glasses.

And yes the Store was very organized and everything was in it's place. Neat and clean.

@spumoni99  the Store I went to was very clean and tidy. No junk. My friend also told me she goes to another one that looks the same.

I would go there again especially for gift bags and pens and pencils and so on. Some very nice things that I would buy also.

By the way, everything now starts at $1.25 instead of $1.00.

Maybe I will give them another look, about 12 and a half years ago I bought a bunch of gift bags for my daughters baby shower and they all ripped as soon as I put gifts in them.  I just never know what to look at in the store or when I went before.  I will give it another look.

Intresting replies. I don't know if the employee was speaking the truth. I just think it is an interesting revelation.

Wonder where they'll get their things from? I would love for the USA to start making things but I know that won't happen in my lifetime. I remember when I was growing up that everything was made in Japan.

@Carolina925 - Over half of the things in my home are made in Japan --  that I bought when I lived in Japan - LOL!

How things must have changed. I'm not that fussy where items are made, but the quality has to be what I want.

I also feel more comfortable when I know the vendor is very involved and has visited, like Louis Dell'Olio.

One of my favorite lines here, American West, is no longer made in New Mexico. I'm OK with that, IF Carolyn and her team still design the jewelry.

@Group 5 minus 1 , off topic, I'm assuming you're an Alabama fan with your tag line.

It's one of my favorite songs they sing; of course, I enjoy all of their songs, but that one is a favorite.  They used to come to our local fair and I saw them 14 years in a row sitting down front close to the stage.  They really put on a good show and are still touring, though Jeff has passed.

Sorry for going off topic.

Dollar Tree and Family Dollar merged and are now owned by the same company  On line it says that Family Dollar got 25% of its merhandise from China and Dollar Tree gets 40%.  They'll probably be combining Purchasing Depts. and either phasing out buying from China and/or buying from other countries like India. etc.

I also read that Family Dollar is changing the name to Popshelf over the next four years and that Dollar Tree may be dropping prices back to $1.00 on some items but will still have some items at the $3 and $5 price.

@Melzie

Dollar General owns Popshelf. Family Dollar/Dollar Tree are competitors.

whether or not she believed it doesn't  matter. She took time to post an interesting topic for discussion and I appreciate it.

I will never understand why some Posters are wondering why someone Posts certain topics. If no one did, what would there be for us to talk about? They are the same ones saying that the Forums are dead.
