Remember those crash test videos with the dummies flying o ut of their seats and careening through the windshield? The same thing can happen to your cat in the event of a car accident. When taking your feline friend for a ride, use the seat belt to keep her carrier in place. Hard-sided carriers can be restrained by running the seat belt through the handle and securing it in the usual way. Soft-sided carriers can be a bit trickier, but many have carrying handles as well. Some higher-end models even come with attachments specifically designed to help you buckle your cat in.
