The one thing I don't like is that you cannot put plastic, like those plastic grocery bags, in there. I have a carpload of those plastic bags - not that I get them at the store but the husband does. I wish I could find a venue for recycling those. I wouldn't feel right throwing them in the trash.

It used to be free here and they took anything. Now it's $1.50 for every twenty pounds of trash. They pick up trash weekly and recyclables once every two weeks. The recycling rules are ever-changing. For a while, we had to sort every recyclable. Now they can all be lumped together in one container, but you can't put bottle caps on recyclable bottles as it gums up their machines, so the bottle caps have to be tossed in the trash even though they're recyclable. You can only recycle plastics with a 1 or 2 in the recycling symbol on the bottom, not any other plastic. All other plastic is now trash. They recycle cardboard, but not card stock. When pressed for clarification on which is which they'll tell you that cereal boxes are cardboard, while cracker boxes are card stock. (They look the same to me.) Oh, and if you get something wrong in the recycling, it's up to a $500 fine and up to six months in prison. We get a page-long printout each year of what is and isn't recyclable this cycle and it always changes. Recycling has become less about saving the planet and more an income source for the township. They only want to recycle items they can make a profit from recycling. If they can't make money from it, then it's trash.

I live in the outskirts of Seattle WA. We have waste management....I pay every three months about $198.00 for garbage, yard waste and recycling pick up weekly. The recycling cart is only picked up every other week. I do not complain and am grateful for the service no matter the cost.

Apparently they used to, before the CV19 restrictions. Maybe again. Man, when they do, good thing I have a large vehicle to cart them in.
I never get plastic, and wish he wouldn't. I actually have my own bags but some stores won't let you bring them in now, so I get paper and can recycle that with the WM pick up.

@SeaMaiden As I mentioned, they aren't doing that for now due to CV19 around here. I hope it comes back at some point because I've not been able to find anybody who is still taking them. ![]()

Our trash and recycling is included in our taxes. We have garbage collection once a week, recycling every 2 weeks, and yard waste is every week through the spring, summer, and fall months.

@chickenbutt Never heard of them not collecting plastic bags? What state?I live in WA State

Included in our taxes. Trash and recycling. Branches must be tied in bundles and they don't take leaves, so we have to do it ourselves and bag leaves or hire lawn company which we do.

I have the same service in WA that @SeaMaiden does. The garbage can is quite small and extra trash is frowned upon. No yard waste.
In AZ the trash is picked up twice a week, up to ten bags! Recycling is every other week. It is quite a bit less expensive. Sorry but I can't remember what it costs.
