But have they used it before for their annual retreats?
Or is it common to charter an Amtrak?
Why is that relivant?
Do you mean ‘relevant?’
Yes, it is.
I have my reasons why I’m asking.
And I’m not the only one questioning why.

Well you do seem to be the only one questioning it for whatever your reasons.
Then perhaps your question concerning the travel arrangements would best be directed to the RNC.

Amtrak is used quite often by members of Congress who live on the east coast. Joe Biden rode it every day from our train station in Wilmington.

I'm more interested in why the dump truck was on the train tracks than I am in why they were riding Amtrack.
Could it have been a derailment?

hearing testimony from the reps and senators that are doctors and how they got off as quickly as possible to attend to people in truck, including cpr, opening an airway- couldn't save one person, revived another.to load onto medevac........fortunately there were other medical personnel attending to people on train itself. apparently one congressperson was taken to hospital out of caution. not clear why truck was on tracks because usually tracks are cleared for a delegation like this(about 200 congresspeople) - security reasons. they have traveled by Amtrak before.

@JJsMomno- the train hit the truck on the tracks. the front engine jumped the rails after impact.

Really - who is questioning it? It would seem more economical - and better for the enviroment - than everyone driving seperately - or taking planes - or whatever. What exactly is the problem?

I heard one Congressman talking to Fox who said he was walking when the crash occurred and was violently thrown and hurt his ankle. Then while he was talking, he said he was feeling nauseous. I wonder if he may also have hit his head. I don't know if he is one who was taken to the hospital.
