The Greebriar resort is not near an airport.  It's out in the mountains.  They would need a lot of helicopters to get everyone there that way.

Train to motorcoach is probably the best bet for a large group of people.

the Greenbrier was built by CSX (railroad) -and the railroad tracks go right to the resort - all very convenient for DC types.

And from the looks of it, very expensive.

They do have an airport, but it appears commercial service is seasonal beginnning in April-Aug/Sept, direct flights from Dulles to White Sulphur Springs.

On their website, they speak of Southwest chartered flights, with the airport appearing to be open year-round.  It seems Amtrak is a new mode of transportation to the resort.

It makes it even worse, remembering the shooting in the baseball field.

What a lot of trauma for them to deal with.

@Noel7, I was wondering who was paying for this. According to NPR it’s being hosted by a lobbyist institute who will have access to the lawmakers during the three-day retreat.

Taking the conversation in another direction for a second,

The Greenbrier Resort is really pretty.

Kinda reminds me of The Biltmore in Asheville.

The Greenbriar also houses the bunker.

You can go on tours.  It's a lot of fun.  I highly recommend it.

They also have a casino.  If you go on the tour, they give you a day pass to the casino.  It's only open to guests of the resort.
