Your not alone, I was not impressed with Trader Joe's either....And it's NOT about the prices, just their selection.  I bought some snacks, they were stale and the expiration date was in the future....I'd rather shop at Central Market or Whole Foods, their produce is fresh and just perfect...they have all kinds of unique items too

I think it boils down to people who are there just to grocery shop and people who enjoy the experience--and Aldi's and TJ'S have lots of snacks, microwave frozen food and treats and other items new and different items besides groceries.  And a lot of people like to browse and try new things.

Me?  I want groceries, my list, get my stuff and get what I want and get out!  So they are not to my taste.  I don't browse through cookies or snacks, or the freezer case, so I'm in the dark about new items.  Which is good or bad--all things considered!  

So it's all good--just depends on what your "mission" that day is!

WHAT???  I look every time I go in and it's never there.  Maybe some stores get it and others don't.  I'll ask the next time I'm in.  Do you mind telling me if you live in a big town?  I'm in Santa Fe, population around 85,000. Maybe larger places get it.   Thanks for letting me know.

They only sell TJ brand

I do all my shopping there.  Have no problem finding what I need.  Also don,t have to watch the register at checkout like SAFEWAY AND ESPECIALLY RALEY,S.  Always a mistake of at least a dollar an item.

Raley,s French bread 1.98, register charged 2.48.  Honey crisp apples 2.69 lb.. Register rang up 2.99 a lb.  I told mgrs. and called corporate and 6 month later still not changed.  

An elderly home near it and a lot buy there.  I ho pe they look at their receipts. I don,t have this problem @TJ.

@qvcaddition I don't shop there.  The one not far from me has been there for years.  I've never been and have no intention on going.  I'm good with the other choices I have.

It's OK. I only answered because you said they sell brands you never heard.  If you never shopped there, why did you say that.? It's not for everyone, bascially for single people. My son doesn't like shopping there because he cooks for the family and difficult for him to find what he needs.  For me, that is my go to store.  Maybe they are different in different states.

This makes perfect sense.  I need groceries.  I'm not into trying new things unless it fits in with my dietary needs.  I can't just up and go try a new packaged food.  I don't eat too many packaged items anyway.  I watch for salt, sugar and such.  I can be adventurous in a regular supermarket if I could be don't need Trader Joes for that.

@Bridgegal, I live in a suburb outside of a city about four times the population of Santa Fe. I have noticed at times that somethings a not always found, or low on stock.

We have a Trader Joe's within walking distance of where we live....have only been inside twice. Went in when it opened three years ago to see what all the buzz was about. It's a very small store and it was packed with people. I went again yesterday to get some bagels that I heard were good. It was also packed with people but not many products that I use...the produce was sky-high in price and most everything else was frozen or boxed...very little canned goods. Looks like they specialize in frozen prepared foods like egg rolls, veggie casseroles, etc. I left without buying anything. I saw that they didn't have fresh produce priced by the pound. Everything was priced individually, like onions 69 cents apiece, etc. I have never seen that before. Doubtful I will shop there again.

I think one of the issues as to why some like TJ's and others do not - if you are already familiar with TJ's and shop there you will most likely continue to do so.

Folks who have never been in one are hesitant when one does open up in their areas because it is natural to compare it to local markets.  

TJ's just isn't your regular grocery store.  I very seldom see shoppers with full carts and multiple bags of items when they leave the store as you do in other stores.

Usually folks might have one or two bags the most, as we do.

We had TJ's back home so when they finally opened here we naturally went; some here who were not familiar with TJ's expected to see it the same as the local chain or Whole Foods.

I think that is why some get turned off by TJ's.
