A Trader Joe's came to our area..well, it's an hour away...I am not impressed.  To be honest I do not compare prices, if I want or need something I buy it.

DH did buy some wine that he liked.  The store is really small, I don't know if that is their normal size or it's just for my area.

I love Trader Joe’s and go at night when it isn’t crowded. Normally I would shop there every two or three weeks, mainly for items I can’t get elsewhere. We have a waxed amaryllis about to bloom from TJ’s, which cost a fraction of the price I’ve seen elsewhere. I’ve used their Nourish shampoo and conditioner for many years after someone recommended it here.

Trader Joe's is my favorite food store bar none. Store is clean (although small). Prices are reasonable and I don't have to wait for sales. Foods are turned over so fast that it is always fresh and If I can't find something an associate is always willing to check if there is something in the back of the store that hasn't been put on the shelves yet. Not a big fan of the frozen foods but I like to prepare my food fresh. The employees are always friendly and helpful. Perhaps because they are treated well by the company with good wages, health benefits and opportunity for growth. They are the only store in my area that has maintained senior hours and covid awareness by cleaning carts and maintaining distancing.

@reiki604   Yes and you can get a spritz on your hands with sanitizer when you enter the store.  The senior hours are only 2 days a week around here.

I also like how you go in one door and leave in the other so the carts are not put back with the ones already sanitized.

I agree about the friendliness of the workers-always a smile, never a grumpy face or impatience if you need help.

Whole Foods is better than Trader Joe's.  TJ's are small stores with low ceilings, narrow aisles and their selection of produce not as big as Whole Foods.  If you go to TJ's you will bump into other shoppers as it's that small.  I have no idea what they did for the pandemic as many stores had to reduce their occupancy by having a person count as they came thru the door.  No way to social distance in those stores and the checkout lanes are an absolute misery so close to together.  I will not be subjected to that and stopped going a few years ago certainly would never subject myself to that during the pandemic.

Your generalization of ".......small stores with  low ceilings......etc." is interesting, and certainly not applicable to the two stores in my area.

Our Whole Foods is also a lovely store, but the aisles are narrower than our TJs. No generalization intended, just different experience.

You're lucky.  I wish there were more modern ones here.
