My husband and I do our main grocery shopping at Giant, but we do like the bread selection at Trader Joe's. Their English Muffins, for example, are so much better than Thomas' imo. And they have Crumpets, which we love, but are hard to find at regular grocery stores like Giant!
Another thing we really like is their frozen spanakopita! Very, very good!

@Bri36 I agree but it depends upon where the TJ is located. Ours has far less fresh meat (some processed packaged meats) but overall the frozen selections outweigh the fresh as far as entress and veggies. They also have a good selection of breakfast items (frozen) but their dairy is well stocked.
I have been to TJ's in the Northeast and in Texas and both areas do have less fresh meat, with Texas having the least.
I think people forget that different areas will have different types of selections. Even our 2 Whole Foods can vary at times.
Not all of their fresh produce has been a win for us, either. But as I said, it all depends where your stores are located.
Absolutely, the various TJs stock heavy on what people ask for in their area, and the percentage contents will vary - some stores have a larger produce area than others, more/less meat, baked goods, etc. depending on area.
No store is all things to all people. They've always had a huge frozen food section. In CA, fresh prepared foods are what everyone asks for, from 20-somethings who work long hours and want simple, quick & healthy to those retired, single or couples, and in between.
I LOVE Trader Joe's and do most of my shopping there (filling in a little at Whole Foods and Safeway). I was thrilled when a store became available within walking distance.
Mine has everything -- a good selection of meat, produce, bread, baked goods, cereal, coffee, juices, canned, bottled and packaged items, dairy, lots of organic, lots of frozen items, vitamins, wine as well as fresh prepared foods (those I tend not to buy). I don't buy things like toothpaste or toilet paper there, although they do sell them.
But I can see where other areas might not have the same selection.

@bewise I believe they are owned by the same parent company. I love both stores and shop both often. I won't have any other ketchup in the house besides TJ's, the best I have ever had!
Me, too! I *love* their organic ketchup!
Hi @momtochloe
Tee hee, normally I am not that passionate about a condiment @Noel7 but that ketchup just knocks it out of the park for me . . . I know you are not feeling well right now my friend and I so hope for better times ahead for you in the very near future!
@momtochloe I am the same exact way about ketchup. I have to have certain brands and TJ's, Heinz and one other local homemade ketchup are it for me. Actually it is the local homemade ketchup, TJ's and Heinz in that order. I cannot do Hunts or any other brand. I have had friends say oh, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you didn't see the bottle. I can absolutely tell the difference. I am most definitely passionate about that condiment but no so much others.

Here, TJ's offers a lot of ready made food. I love their fresh cooked beets, I don't like peeling beets myself. For today and tomorrow, I got two Costco roast chickens. Chicken for dinner, and chicken sandwiches over the weekend.
I also love their teryiaki frozen chicken, nice pieces and not heavy or gooey.
Works for me.
I absolutely love beets @Noel7 but they are the biggest pain because they are so messy. I will have to check these out because no matter how careful I am it always looks like I murdered someone when I am done. I usually peel and they roast them in the oven with olive oil, salt and pepper and I still end up making a mess.
Sorry you have not been feeling well lately. ![]()

I prefer to shop at Costco, Aldi, or a local grocery store called Mariano's, which opened close to me January 2017. I also shop at Meijer occasionally when they have a good sale on organic produce.
I used to like Trader Joes but the last time I was there, it seemed like nearly everything I picked up had wheat or soy listed in the ingredients, sometimes both. I tested as allergic to both Sept 2013 & a 21 day elimination diet that I recently completed reinforced that I have major issues with both wheat & soy.

@sgraham30 isn't it amazing how Mariano's has just blossomed in our area? After what Safeway did to the gentlemen that now owns/runs Mariano's I am happy for them as they are well run and their employees all seem to be very happy and not stressed out. I wish I could shop there more often but when they run a sale it's always a good one and I love their Roundy's house brand products.

@Irshgrl31201: I buy my beets at Costco in the refrigerated section, peeled and vacuum sealed. No more peeling for me. They are great....

I love Trader Joe's, and after reading the posts here, I realized one thing most of all.
How lucky we are to have such amazing choices when it comes to buying food to feed ourselves and our family!!
I'm so grateful for our food and to our beloved country for making it so available to us!
