I thought I read somewhere that he completely broke his femur. If so, that will take months before he can even put weight on it.
A family member completely broke his femur in half and it was 12 weeks minimum before he could put any weight on it after the surgery to repair it.
After 12 wks., when he could begin to put weight on it, was when the real rehab was able to start on it.

Sounds like he's in for a long recovery but with all the support he has I'm sure he'll do great. Thanks for the update!

Here's very lucky that all of his physical injuries were 'just' broken bones, and not internal bleeding, collapsed lungs, injuries to organs, etc..
I think he'll be back on his feet sooner rather than later,
