As I was clearing my inbox this morning, I happened to notice something for the first time. (Perhaps I am late to the party). Nevertheless, at the very bottom of many of the emails I noticed an option to "unsubscribe" to further emails from this particular vendor. My fingers got busy. Anyone else notice this and is it a fairly new option?

It's not new. I do it when I don't want emails from whomever is sending them.

I've used this option some oblige, some don't and still send out emails anyway.

I've used this option on some, but some of them will ask you for personal information before they will "unsubscribe" you. I'm not giving them anything, so I put those on my "blocked" list... it's getting rather long!

It's not new and I've used it successfully.
Sometimes for stores I want to continue with instead of totally unsubscribing, I choose the option for fewer emails - one a week instead of often, even one a month is sometimes an option.
It can take several weeks for the change to happen, but I've never had to ask twice.

I use it all the time with no problem. It's been around a long time. Never had any of them ask me for any personal information other than to verify my email address and sometimes to select which part you want to unsubscribe from (some sites have newsletters, notices of sales, etc. and you have to select "unsubscribe from all" or just choose the ones you don't want to receive). Many sites have a simple "one click to unsubscribe" option. They are all set up differently, so pay attention.
If you keep getting emails and the unsubscribe option does not work for some reason, put the sender or the sender's domain in your spam (junk email) box. You won't see it again. You have to manage your own email account--no one is going to do it for you.

The problem with our email account is that even though I have most of them going to my junk box, then I have to delete them from there, and then I have to permanently delete my delete box. Kind of a PIA.

I've been starting to 'unsubscribe' to some of them that have been getting too frequent.
That said, however, ONLY unsubscribe to ones that you know are legitimate businesses, and/or businesses with which you've done business. Don't use that on spam because that's just an identifier that the email address is legit and you'll get all kinds of more spam after they sell your information.

Didn't know that. Thanks.
