@Enufstuff

We are again fortunate to be treated to your beautiful dolls.  They are dressed to perfection, in the very best of taste.  I marvel at your designing and sewing skills.  Thank you for sharing.

I like plaid, but only have a few plaid shirts.  In my Catholic girls' school days our uniforms were navy blue jumpers, white long sleeve blouses.  Each year was signified by the color of the bow clamped onto the collar.  The nuns were a very strict order, and we had to wear nylons, then socks over the nylons.

It took me a long time after I graduated before I wore navy blue again, but I did get an excellent high school education.

@Enufstuff   Beautiful as always.  Although, I love Blue, the red dress is my favorite of the two.

I have some plaid throws and a tartan plaid small Dooney wristlet.  I bought my sister a tartan crossbody last year.  I have a few small dishes in plaid, that I use at the holiday.  I never had to wear uniforms in our catholic grade school.  Just dresses, NO pants.

@spiderw I had a small tearful cheerful doll, that my brother scratched the paint on her eye out.  I cried for days.  I think I was six.  My parents did replace her.  You put water in her belly (I think) and she would cry tears.  She was my favorite "baby" doll.  I took such special care of my dolls.  God forbid if I lost a Barbie shoe.  🤣

@Enufstuff @Thank you for sharing more beautiful dresses for Toni!😁 I love both but my favorite is the red. It's such a traditional look.

I went to public school but can remember wearing skirts and dresses up to high school. Sometime during my freshman year girls were allowed to wear pants. We were told to wear dress pants but nobody did...we all wore jeans. You could say that was the end of me wearing dresses and skirts.

I probably stopped wearing plaid skirts in elementary school. It was very popular then.  As for today, I have a few plaid big shirts and a plaid fall jacket.

Re: Toni Girls in Plaid

@SportyShorty07 @spiderw @PamfromCT  Thank you very much, but I should clarify that I did not make these two outfits. They are dressed as I found them, last year.  I only washed and ironed the dresses and washed, permed and restyled their hair. Of course, they each had a nice bath first

The blue dress is actually a dress with a short bolero jacket . It was made by another Toni mom. I love this little outfit and the cute faux leather belt. There is so much detail in this outfit, I can really appreciate the work involved in making it.

The red plaid is an original Toni Doll outfit by Ideal, as are the shoes and socks. The blouse and skirt are two separate pieces. I have seen this skirt made in other colors, too. Most are the red plaid.

Last Winter, I introduced these two dolls as Toni's French cousins, Michelle and Colette from Canada, coming to visit for Christmas.

@Enufstuff  Thank you for the clarification, Enuffstuff Smiley HappyHeart! These plaid Toni outfits that you got are beautiful and all of your Toni creations that you have made and shown us are absolutely beautiful! The hairstyles that you do on the Toni girls are so great- I've even replicated the big Toni waves using my hot rollers for a big glam long wavy look on my hair Smiley Very Happy. Its amazing that you pressed and ironed these outfits- how do you iron such little Toni clothes? I bet you have to use the pointed tip front of the iron Smiley Happy. So great!

@SportyShorty07   Aren't you a trip! Cleverly replicating those 1950's hairstyles on your own long hair. Your hairstyles must be beautiful. It takes time and patience to create those hairstyles.

Have you seen the young women online who live and dress

in retro 50's styles? They even decorate their houses in the 50's styles. Some show how to re-create the hairdos and how they apply their makeup. Some have 50's vintage cars.

I've seen a few that also have tattoos, but that would never have been seen on women in the 50's. Back then it was mostly sailors who sported tattoos. My uncle had a hula girl on his calf. (He had been in the Navy) He would entertain us kids, when we were at the beach. He would move his leg in such a way that it appeared that the girl was dancing. I'm sure that she got wrinkled, faded and blurry, as he aged, into his eighties.

He also had the name "Shirley" on his arm. His wife, my aunt, was named Jacqueline.  Smiley Sad    There was no laser tattoo removal, back then.

Back in the 90's, there was a famous local tattoo artist who had  names of at least four ex-girlfriends on his arm, with a line drawn through each of them, to cross them out.

You are correct about the ironing, using only the tip of the iron, with steam, on the cotton fabrics. I found a little trick to "iron" the puffy sleeves, without creating a crease in them.  I just stuff the sleeves with pieces of crumpled paper towels and they dry perfectly crease free and they hold their puffy shape.

I was going to invest in a tiny iron, but after reading the reviews of them, I decided to just continue ironing the way I

did it 15 years ago, when I made the doll dresses and sold them online.

@Enufstuff  Thank you, Enuffstuff! I think that your Toni dolls win in the 1950's hairdo department! I have long wavy hair in a feathered/layered Farrah Fawcett style cut and so even when I do the big round brush blowout and set my hair in the hot rollers, my hair still gives 70's vibes when I'm trying to copy your Toni's big wave curled 50's hairdo Smiley Happy.  Its fun to try new hairdo's though and I love the great outfits and hairdos that you create for your Toni dolls Smiley Very HappyHeart

I have seen those youtube videos about ladies who live and dress as if its the 1950's- I think that hobby of recreating the past must be really fun! Your uncle's hula girl tattoo on his calf sounds so playful- it made me laugh picturing his dancing hula girl calf tattoo trick for you and your family at the beach Smiley LOL. Oh his Shirley tattoo must've been a little annoying for your Aunt Jacqueline to see. The local tattooo artist's crossed out ex-girlfriends is a cheap and darkly funny way to acknowledge and cover up his past relationships, that's for sure!

I like your ironing technique of adding little crumpled paper into the puff sleeves to keep their shape and avoid creasing! You are so clever, resourceful and smart- the things you think of for your designs and how to present your Toni creations! You're like an arts and crafts version of MacGyver!
