Hollywood actor Tom Hanks is suffering from diabetes.
The "Philadelphia" star, 57, who has been dealing with high blood pressure since the age of 36, revealed he has been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, a lifelong condition which occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin.
The star opened up about the condition on the "Late Show with David Letterman," saying, "I went to the doctors and they said, 'You know those high blood sugar numbers you've been living with since you were 36, well you've graduated, you've got Type 2 Diabetes young man.'"
"My doctor said, 'Look, if you can weigh as much as you weighed in high school, you will essentially be completely healthy and will not have type 2 diabetes,' and then I said to her, 'Well I'm going to have type 2 diabetes' because there is no way I can weigh as much as I weighed in high school,'" he says. "I weighed 96 pounds in high school. I was a very skinny boy."
(Love Tom Hanks. I don't expect him to go back to weighing 96 lbs. but I do hope he manages to get the numbers down.)
