Now when it comes to ironing I do that chore right handed. I think it's because when I was a teen and living at home the ironing board was set up for all of the other family members who were right handed (my other 8 siblings and my parents) so I had to adjust. I do everything else left handed

I'm VERY left-handed, but I'm the same way with scissors.  When I was a kid there would be either zero or one pair of left-handed scissors in a given classroom.  I was a wimpy little thing so I never  manage to snag them.

Consequently, I learned to use scissors with my right hand.  To this day, if I try to use my left hand with scissors it just doesn't cut.  odd.  heh

I, too, was the only left-handed person in my family.

Math nerd, science-geek, lefty.
I had a heck of a time trying to learn some things in clinicals. Everything was demonstrated backwards to me.

Re: Today is International Left handers day

It is impossible for me to iron with my left hand. My mom tried to help me do it but I never could, not that I've ironed anything in 20 years! There are a couple things I can only do with my right hand comfortably.

I also never understood how a leftie, and there were a few in my high school, could write with their arm curved around like that!

Re: Today is International Left handers day

My Mom was left handed. She told me about how the nuns in school always tried to get her to write right handed. As if there was something wrong with being left handed. It sounded so cruel.

All except for one nun who was sympathetic and helpful, because she was also left handed. There is a lesson in that.

My stepson is a lefty. Luckily teachers today don't push students to change like in the past. They need to be left alone with what is comfortable for them. I will say he has always had awkward handwriting, but is a good artist, having sold some of his work.

@Greeneyedlady21 I'm 73 and grew up in Southern Calif. I never heard of anyone trying to make a lefty switch until my teens. I went to Catholic schools with other lefties and no one ever tried to make us change.
