Thank-you veryone for your well wishes, they really do mean a lot.

Last week, when Charlie would go out on to the screened in porch to sleep, my other cats Cody and Buddy, would lay with him.

I think Charlie knew that his time was growing short, and I think Cody and Buddy knew it too.

I'd like to think that they were saying "Goodbye" to him in their own way.

Now Charlie is young, healthy and full of energy again.

I'd like to think that he's with my parents who will take care of him until I get there.

I know that they will give him all the love and petting that I can't give him here anymore.

I miss him so much!

Just last month he seemed fine.

It always surprises me just how fast they can go downhill.

And then there were three.

Cody, Buddy, and Christie, which was my dad's cat, and became mine after he passed.

The house is emptier without Charlie in it.

The Sky looks different when you have someone you love up there.

I hope someday you will feel like getting another pet. When you live alone they are such a comfort ...right now I understand the hurt you are feeling

I'm so sorry for the sadness and pain you're feeling, but you did what had to be done, to prevent Charlie from suffering.

You're a loving Mom to do that for him, no matter how much it broke your heart.

Last Night

I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peek.

I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.

I purred to you softly as you wiped away a tear,

"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour your coffee.

You were thinking of the many times your hand reached down to me.

I was with you at the shop today; your arms were getting sore,

I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today; you tend it with such care.

I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you toward the house, you fumbled for your key.

I gently put my paw on you; I smiled and said, "It's me."

You looked so very, very tired and sank into a chair.

I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everyday,

to tell you with such certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew....

in the stillness of the evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over, I smile and watch you yawning

and say, "Goodnight, God Bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,

I'll rush across to meet you and we'll stand side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there's so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out....then come home to be with me

I’m so sorry for your loss. This happened to me two months ago and I am still so sad. My little 17 year old passed away next to me on the sofa. Just stopped breathing. I know how sad and devastated you are feeling.

Not easy to say good bye, but I always try to think of what a happier home I had with my critter friends. It hurts but I would do it over again in a minute. They need us as much as we need them. Rest in peace Charlie. You were a good companion.
