My daughter is an artist and designed mine. We took almost 8 mos. before I had it done. Had a vision of something I wanted that had a deep, DEEP meaning to our family. There was PLENTY of thought behind it. I don't know anyone that just made a rash decision to get a tattoos.

5. I was beyond 'middle' age when I decided I wanted to get one. That was many years ago. I have aged like everyone else. However, it is located on the top of my wrist.
My skin does NOT sag there....nor does it wrinkle. It looks the same it did years ago...so the aging line is a myth if you get the tattoo in a good place on your body.

6. The posts using name calling such as repulsive, beauty killers, disgusting, etc.....are judgemental beyond words. I never judge people by their skin, decorated or not...NOR by their size, piercings, fashion choices etc.

7. You do not need to understand it.....if it isn't something you want, then no need to 'get' other's decisions.

8. I have been promoted 3x....tats and all. Imagine that.

This comes across as pretty defensive which reflects your own stuff, not others. Just sayin.

I am not defensive in the least.

I don't need to defend my choices to you or anyone else on this thread!

I don't regret my tats in the least.....simply calmly replied to the posts I felt didn't apply to me at all.

Many who have never had a tattoo are making comments I found to be totally false, making generalized statements with no knowledge.

Again, if you don't like them, don't get one.....but the posts using name calling such as repulsive, beauty killers, disgusting, etc.....are not necessary and just unkind.

To have a civil discussion about them, It would be nice to see adjectives not meant to insult.

Just because you can type nasty anonymously, doesn't mean you should! Be NICE.

You are correct in the fact that posts here may read differently to different people.

However, I am not judging the poster. I am giving my opinions and responses to what was written based on my experience.

I am giving my opinions that I felt the language used was unkind and felt judgemental.

I did not respond to anyone personally, only responded to the written word as I interpreted it.

@Sooner I think many people will come to regret tatoos. I have heard that the laser removal business is booming.

Yrs ago, we had a patient who was a Holocaust Survivor. numbered tattoo on her arm. It just dumbstruck all of us. No words.

Say something, might remind her of such horror & loss?

I've worried about the permanent ink. Is it toxic?

That's what worries me. The needles/ink/etc.

However, there are some beautiful tattoos out there.

Whatever is comfortable for folks.

I 'still' haven't had my earlobes pierced.

So, 'that's where I'm at' right now. For myself.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

It can be, @deepwaterdotter . Some shops/artists have a minimum, so a little one can be seen as expensive when you compare to something a little larger. Usually size and the amount of detail work will determine the cost. They tell you in advance so you can walk away if you don't want to pay what's quoted. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing that more experienced artists that are in high demand can charge more than average.

PS - a good tip is customary, too. (20%)

My sister in law has several. I have beautiful nieces who have ruined their appearance with them. We see a LOT of tattoos where we live and I think they are ugly, all of them. When one of our sons was younger, he wanted one and we said, “No.” A few years ago he thanked us for saying NO. We have 3 grown sons, all tat free and we are very happy about that.

My Dad had tatoo's on both arms. Not little and not big. One said "Aloha Hawaii" and the other said "Mother". They rather fascinated me as a child. He got them while in the Navy.

There are arguments for and against. Personally, I wouldn't get one.

I have a daughter who got one in her early 50's...

It's a small one on the inside of her left wrist. It's a Dove and she told me she chose it because it reminded her of me.

She knows I love birds....especially Doves...I have never said a thing to her

and I did appreciate the sentiment.

To be honest, I don't like the looks of any

thing so "great big" that that is the first thing you see. I also don't think they are very attractive. That is just my honest opinion for myself. I realize I don't have the right to judge but I can judge for myself my likes and dislikes.
