Matthew would be perfect, he is from TX, but still can get a good southern accent, also Tatum Channing, another southern boy would be good too!
If Scout is an adult, you'd need an older actor.
Gregory Peck didn't have a southern accent when he played Atticus.

I think Clint Eastwood would be a great older Atticus Finch.

Clint Eastwood, Robert Duvall and Robert Redford are among the few top actors of that era sill alive. I do think Eastwood could probably pull it off. Doubt that Redford would be interested and Duvall just doesn't have that stately look that I associate with Atticus.

I also think that if he was still with us Paul Newman would have been an excellent choice. I still feel Clint Eastwood is a great choice.

From what I've read this is an earlier version of To Kill a Mockingbird which was deemed not worthy of publication in the 1950's.Since Ms Lee never chose to publish it previously, I have concerns that this is merely an attempt to make money off her reputation. I hope I'm wrong. Here's an interesting piece on the subject.
adelle ~ Thanks very much for this article. Like so many others, i'm practically beside myself in anticipation of reading the story of Scout's return to Maycomb and her visit with Atticus.
But the circumstances regarding this release of Harper Lee's book, according to the article, are somewhat unsettling. Like you, I do hope that Lee's wishes and best interests are fulfilled going forward with this project.

I'm so excited too. "To Kill a Mockingbird" was one of my favorite books and Atticus Finch my favorite character in literature.
In the times we are living, the message in "Mockingbird" still resonates.
I don't see Clint Eastwood as the elder Atticus. I do see Redford. Atticus was a gentle soul, a man of integrity, somewhat shy. I think Redford has that character in him and would relish playing a man of principle who believes in equal justice for all people.
I hope this book release will make "To Kill a Mockingbird" a book that schools will once again make students read and explore its messages and lessons.
I bet it makes Oprah's book club list.
