We have both snow and ice up our way, terrier- I am farther north than Gidget.

It started as snow and nothing on the road or driveway sticking. But then they both got wet and it's 21 degrees and it all turned to ice.

Traffic is still stopped in front of my house. My friend, who is walking to get her son, said there were at least 30 cars stuck on this small bridge down the road from me. That's what's causing the backup.

So, on the national news tonight, when they show Atlanta, once again, people will think that we don't know how to drive, but there is ice under that small amount of snow.

I'm figuring any minute now we're going to have people knocking on our door for help and we'll bring them in and feed them.

A friend of mine left our office at 1:20 and has gone 2-3 miles in 2 hours and 20 minutes. She has a 25 mile drive home.

I'm a bit farther north than Suzie and we are just having snow but the roads are slushy and icy. Treacherous driving today and will be much worse in the morning. Snow is wet and clinging to trees, especially the pines. Have some very low hanging branches already.

Marp- I'm in East Cobb. Marietta/Roswell area.

I heard that, Marp2.. tomorrow morning with the temps dropping will be like an ice skating rink- so glad we don't have to get out in it.. I mean the snow is still falling.. like a winter wonderland!!

You stay safe and warm too.. can you imagine the road through the Nantahala.. dangerous with all those curves..

LOL Suzie, practically my back yard. Then again, once off the highway dangerous curves (and steep grades) pretty much covers most of the roads around here.

Re: To All Of You In The Deep South

We've got a little bit of snow starting to accumulate on the road since before noon. Son will be driving home from high school. One mile away. I've texted him, even though he is in class and hopefully will check phone before leaving, to be sure and let car warm up properly, clear all windows and allow extra stopping distance. This will be his FIRST time driving in/on snow & hopefully not much ice . . . yet . . . the bell should be ringing in just a few . . . then we're in for the duration. Hopefully things will be back to normal on Thursday a.m. Not suppose to get above 32 tomorrow. He was suppose to have band practice until 5:30 but of course all after school activities are canceled. And husband finally, after a week and one day working at home, went to work today. Of course he did. Goodness. 25 'ish miles away. At least he has much more experience driving in adverse conditions. Not to say those around him on the highway will though.

Gidget,

Good thoughts going out for your friend with that drive. Maybe stopping somewhere for the night would be a better idea if she has only gone a couple of miles in over two hours. The last thing she needs is an over-heated car or running out of gas.

She just texted me. She turned around and just got back to our office.

gidget......really, I think I would think twice about going to therapy in the morning. I know 7:00 is early, but you really don't know what time the storm will hit, and surely you don't want to be out caught in in. Don't know what your therapy is all about, but if you have had any kind of surgery on your hips, legs, or arms, that is really not the place you want to be....you can always reschedule.

And as far your your DH having an eye dr. appointment, I would consider the same thing for him too.

We just had a terrific snow storm here, and I had to postpone a couple of my appointments at that time. They would rather you do that than to fall or have an accident.

What ever you do, please be very careful.

Showme- just read this. Thanks for your post. My therapy appt, for some back issues, went fine this morning. It didn't start snowing till I'd been home for an hour or more. My husband had cataract surgery and he had a 9:00 AM follow up appointment and he got home just as the first flake fell. The news people here had done a great job predicting the start time.

I'm working from home and am on my lunch break now. I live on a pretty busy road. Traffic is just about at a crawl in both directions in front of our house. Quite a bit of snow coming down here.

Well, am glad you both got home before it started coming down. It is always good when you have news people that can be correct.

I know how important that 1st checkup following cataract surgery is. Have had both of my eyes done.

In what area are you in???? And, how much are you supposed to get?

Have been listening off and on to some of the different networks, and right now am watching the Weather Channel.

Right now it is about 18 here. It was 3 when I got up this morning. But, we don't have any snow or ice on the ground, and the sun is shinning very brightly.

Guess there will be a lot of folks staying put tonight.

Suzie- traffic is at a standstill in front of our house in East Cobb. My boss is stuck at our office in Alpharetta. He went out and couldn't get anywhere, so he turned around and went back in the office. Another friend's husband also turned around and went back to his office and is going to spend the night there.

We now have people walking down our road. No one walks down our road. And the Cobb school buses are delayed and can't get the middle schoolers. A friend who lives near me is walking 1.7 miles to get her son from middle school. She doesn't think she can get there by car.

This is just like it was during Snow Jam '82- 32 years ago.

Hope your friend makes it back home safely with her son.

I'm glad to read that. Better an uncomfortable night at the office than chancing what could happen on the road.
