The Florida Broward County Property Appraiser's office has a free homeowner notification alert system that will alert a property owner (me) if a deed is processed on their home.

I signed up as soon as it was announced.

I will have to look into this.

When we refinanced our home, I asked the man from the title company about that  since

that commercial made me curious.

He said it could be more of a possibility if your home is paid off. I didn't ask any further.

It's about protecting your home from thieves who are trying to claim it as their own....scary stuff!  I can only imagine what a headache that could be to fix.

Haven't seen this commercial.  Don't quite understand.  When we bought property we had a title search done by a reputable firm.  Then bought title insurance.  What else needs to be done????

Re: Title / Deed Protection Commercial

NYC also has a program for this.

"Sign up for the Notice of Recorded Document Program: The City Register will automatically mail you a notification when a new document is recorded against your property. You can also designate someone you trust, such as a family member or legal representative, to receive notifications."

It's also recommended that one checks their property's deed every year to make sure that no deeds or mortgages have been recorded on your property without your consent. .  The info is all online so it's easily done.

Have a friend who is a real estate attorney...he said that commercial is to instil fear in people to make money. No need to pay someone to monitor your title or deed to your home. I put it in the same category as those awful home warranty commercials. We have LifeLock which is excellent. Many companies require you subscribe to LifeLock if you are working from home. Title/ Deed monitoring is included in the LifeLock pkg we have had for several years.

If you reside in Broward County, go to 'bcpa dot net' to sign up.

If it is so easy as shown on the TV commericial, than whose responsibility is it to enact tough guidelines so this does not happen ?

@Xivambala Thanks!  I live in PA & my brother lives in MO .  However we both own a condo in Broward County, FL.  I told him and he's already looked into it and signed up.

Re: Title / Deed Protection Commercial

Does anyone know someone personally that this has happened to because I have never met a person whose property was stolen through fraud.

My sister is a realtor/broker and she said the same thing.
