"self-checkout"  = give yourself a tip and don't do it.  Oxymoron????

I avoid self checkout,  I feel it is taking away jobs from people looking for employment. If I am scanning and bagging my own merchandise there is no way I'm tipping!

I've never seen this when I do use the self checkout.  Most of the time, I get my groceries delivered, and I tip really well.  I love the grocery delivery service!

I don't frequent Walmart so don't know if our local store does this. Is this common practice for retail establishments? Are we expected to tip grocery store clerks? Guess I've never paid much attention but I refuse to tip in retail stores for just checking me out and I absolutely would not tip a self checkout machine.

We not seen anything come up on the screen. Doubt that we would tip if it did come up.

We do not use cards-because "only cash is cash".

I'm already doing their job for free so, no, I would never tip. It takes a lot of nerve to even show it on the screen.

I have seen an option asking if you want to make a donation to a charity but haven't seen anything asking for a tip, at least not yet.

Some posters seem to doubt that the tipping screen is coming up at Walmart...trust me, it's coming to a Walmart near you if you don't already have it. I would never leave a penny extra when I am already being overcharged for most things I buy there...and where is the tip going? Will they split it up among the self check-out machines?

At Subway? Isn't the person behind the counter already being paid to make the sandwich for you?

I don’t shop Walmart. Hate the place.
So far I haven’t seen a tip screen at the grocery stores I shop.

I've never seen this!  What?  Tipping for doing self checkout?  That's crazy!  I'm doing all the work!  Why should I tip????  I am giving the store my business and I am checking all the items and bagging all the items.  No way am I going to tip.
