Re: Tipping at the self checkout?

Subway is now asking for a suggested % of your bill for a tip as you purchase your sandwich in front of the cashier.

Re: Tipping at the self checkout?

I was at WalMart a few weeks past and I did not notice this but NO, I will not be tipping a machine or even a checker if that ever occurs. Tipping is completely out of hand in my opinion.

The other thing that has started to annoy me is when you are leaving the Super Walmart they want to see your receipt. Ummm... No. This is not Costco (where I pay a membership to belong) . I keep right on walking.

I think the lowest amount is $1....seems like extortion to me...can't complete your transaction until you pick an amount. Just ridiculous.

A few weeks ago I was craving Pancakes, and placed an order online for the local I-Hop to pick up once I had finished running my errands. The system would not let me complete the transaction until I had left a tip. I was pretty annoyed.

Re: Tipping at the self checkout?

I haven't seen this in Walmarts here.

How can they justify asking for tips?

Re: Tipping at the self checkout?

I wouldn't. I've heard that some grocery stores have started adding the option at regular checkouts and I wouldn't do it there either except for maybe one girl that I really like at one store I go to.

I've worked retail, I get that it stinks and because of that I'm the nicest and I always hope easiest customer they'll deal with all day. But no you don't get a tip for just passing my stuff over the scanner.

Re: Tipping at the self checkout?

My fear is that the new tips are part of someone's pay.  One would never know!

Today, those that didn't at least go to vocational school can hardly make a living income.

Re: Tipping at the self checkout?

Several years ago we visited Australia where there is no tipping. Prices are higher but so are wages; that's the way to go!

if you do not want to leave a tip and  the system is asking you to....choose the option where you can type in the exact amount you want to leave.  Then type in "0"

I do this all of the time and have had no problems.
