Tipping Movers?

I just moved back to my hometown and today,the movers came to deliver all of our stuff. At the end of the day, one of the workers mentioned that he expected us to tip him. Trouble is, I've never heard of tipping your movers. I've never done that. I've always assumed they make a salary and that's it. The move cost over 6K and we did our own packing. Imagine the costs if we had them pack, too.

Has anyone else moved and tipped their movers? Am I the only one who hasn't heard of tipping them?
