esmerelda ~ We bought lunch and tipped the movers. Our stuff was moved from Chicago to California. After two weeks in transit we discovered 2 cases of missing wine (expensive stuff). There was no proof of them being missing as they were never tagged/numbered. We suspected that a couple of the movers had taken them straight from the basement without being tagged..couldn't prove it...se la vie.

OUCH!

I never have nor know anyone who has. $2500 plus for a move IN county PLUS meals? That's PLENTY, sorry. OH, and I unpack myself because that's extra.

Tipping is WAY out of control.

ITA!

It's like everybody is wait staff now and needs a tip in addition to their wage for doing their job. I understand tipping wait staff...their hourly wage is low. The others...not so much.

I tip on a case by case basis. Outside of a restaurant atmosphere. I have no idea what they make. Not my business. If I am very happy with their service . . . I don't mind a little bit that might cover their lunch and/or dinner or whatever on a busy day on the road with deliveries and installations. The granite guys recently . . . as they were leaving I almost forgot and said hey wait a minute and I could almost tell they were like oh no what did we do wrong or forget or something . . . and gave them each a twenty dollar bill and said hope you have time to get something to eat before your next stop. One of them said I gotta give you a hug and proceeded to hug me. He was a sweet young guy, 21 as we'd t talked throughout the morning, and had been doing granite since he was 17 and was quite skilled at it, he had found his "calling" for now, perhaps. Very hard work, 18#'s for a square foot so imagine how much a huge slab for counter(s) weighs and coming up those steps.

When I tip, I tip from the "heart" and am happy to do so. And most all are happy to receive them. Certainly doesn't hurt anybody.

Everyone can choose to tip or not to tip. I don't tip everyone under the sun I come in contact with either . . .
