We tipped before they started moving anything. They were very nice and took great care with all of our belongings.

When we moved the salesman who came to the house told us that the movers are very well paid and we should not feel we have to tip them. One of our movers was a med student so I gave him a tip when we were away from the other - professional movers. You will likely have different men moving the furniture out of your old house than into your new house. We used Mayflower.

They are required by the company they work for to take very good care of your belongings. you don't have to pay extra for that. the company is responsible for any damage they do so they are VERY careful of all belongings.

Our movers also brought their own cooler of cold water at both ends of the move.

When we moved ten years ago the 3 movers were at the house at 8 am to start loading the van. I had already done all the packing. We were in the new house an hour away by 3, already unloaded and furniture placed, boxes in the correct rooms. We tipped each one $40.

On our last move, heck yeah we tipped, and like Brii said we also tipped them before they started. And offered bottled water/sodas throughout the day, and lunch. They took great care of us.

And yes, "it's their job" but it's also our prerogative.

I've moved twice and we did it ourselves both times. If we used movers, I would definitely tip something.

The last couple of things we had delivered, we didn't tip. Each time they literally walked in the door, set the item down and walked out. They weren't there 10 minutes. LOL

I never have nor know anyone who has. $2500 plus for a move IN county PLUS meals? That's PLENTY, sorry. OH, and I unpack myself because that's extra.

Tipping is WAY out of control.

ITA!

It's like everybody is wait staff now and needs a tip in addition to their wage for doing their job. I understand tipping wait staff...their hourly wage is low. The others...not so much.
