@Mersha   I just phoned in a script for renewal and at the end of the convo it was announced that this is American Pharmacists Month and to remember to thank them for what they do.

Ok.  So that doesn't justify a tip jar but it might explain why they are showing up in some pharmacies.

I'll have to see if there is one when I pick up my script tomorrow.

Several years ago, whenever I went into Walmart - there was a Jar asking for money for a charity. Sooooo annoying - especially when the checkout person asked if u want to leave a tip. I told her that I know a very rich family where she could get lots of money - their name is Walton.

@kivahIt takes far less energy to simply say "No thank you" than it is to do that to an employee who is just doing her job.

The employee isn't asking for herself nor is she looking for "lots of money".

Honestly I just don't understand the angst over this;  a little understanding how this employee puts up with negativity all day should make one pause and think before speaking.

Yet you shop there giving the Waltons even more $$,

Go figure.

I ignore ALL tip jars. Problem solved.

that is the way it should be @FiddleDeeDee .

i dont care if there is a tip jar or not. give if you want, dont give if you dont want to, or pick and choose who you give to. it never makes me upset to see a tip jar. individuals have the right to choose how they deal with them.....or not deal with them.

I totally agree that the tip jar has gotten out of hand. Three weeks ago,at my son's rather fancy wedding we noticed a tip jar at the open bar.

When my son & DIL booked the event they specifically said that they will tip generously after the event & didn't want a tip jar anywhere in sight. They had it removed.

Your son had a wedding during Covid?!?

@bunnygirlbrem   Yes!! I live in New York. The Governor allows weddings with up to 50 guests with social distancing.

@NicksmomESQ Congrats! But I hope it wasn't by any the current clusters in NY. Woman Indifferent

@Cakers3  Please let us know if you find a tip jar at your pharmacy.

During the years, I have seen those pesky tip jars in multiple locations.  Yesterday, though, gave me pause.

I was picking up a prescription at a pharmacy located in a large grocery store chain.  There on the counter, where you pay, sat a very large jar marked "tips."

Seriously, at the pharmacy now?  Is this a new thing to tip the pharmacist/assistant for putting together your meds and the sale transaction??????

What's it to you? No one's forced to give but I always do--I know how hard those people work and how little most of them get paid.

So why get your panties in a bunch? It's no skin off your nose

@Ibby114  Nope it was on Long Island several weeks ago where the infection rate was under 1%.Everyone was safe & no one got sick. Goes to show you can follow the rules & still have a good time.

@Mersha I've never seen a tip jar anywhere in the pharmacy I use, but if one were to appear, I'd ignore it.  The only jars into which I put a tip are those where I would have tipped if I were sitting at a table to eat or drink.

I really don't care if they ask -  I know how to say no in many different ways, but ignoring those tip jars is really the easiest no of all.

I agree.  I've never seen a tip jar at a pharmacy, and I think that's inappropriate.  So I would ignore it, just the same as I do if I see a tip jar anywhere else where I opt not to leave a tip.  Super-easy.

I wouldn't say anything or make a big deal about it.  Or move all of my prescriptions to another pharmacy, which was in a comment upthread.  I would just pick up my prescription and move on with my life.  There's enough to get upset about lately, and I prefer to choose my battles.  It's just a jar on a counter that can simply be ignored.

On occasion I tip my hairdrsser, but not every visit.....I have a hair cut appointment every month.  When I get my hair colored, I tip.....frankly tipping is out of control.

i have never heard of NOT tipping a hairdresser?

I haven't either.  They should be tipped every time, IMO.  I've never ever not tipped a hairdresser, no matter what service I was there for.  They've always been on my "definitely tip" list, and I've never given it a second thought.
