@Mersha   How odd.  Was there any money in it???

@Cakers3   There was money in it.  It looked to be a few dollar bills and change.

I had not been in this particular store for a week or two so I have no idea how long it has been sitting there.

The money in there may well have been from the employees, salting the jar with their own money, hoping that customers will think others have caved and rewarded this nonsense and follow suit.

When I ordered something online last week at check out there was a space to leave a tip. First time I have ever seen that. I ignored it and only paid for what I was ordering.

When all the craziness of not being able to find things in the store first started I put in one online order at my local Kroger store (Fry's). The kids who came out to the car were working so hard (and taking abuse from other customers) that I tried to give them a tip. They had to refuse because they were not allowed to accept tips.

I totally agree that the tip jar has gotten out of hand. Three weeks ago,at my son's rather fancy wedding we noticed a tip jar at the open bar.

When my son & DIL booked the event they specifically said that they will tip generously after the event & didn't want a tip jar anywhere in sight. They had it removed.

@NicksmomESQ  I definitely would not be happy that there was a tip jar at the bar when it was precisely stated that they did not want one.

It is a bit awkward for the wedding guests.

@Mersha  Yes, it would have been but luckily my son & his  wife went into the ballroom during the cocktail hour. The photographer wanted to take pictures of them in front of the champagne fountain before the guests came in for dinner. They immediately noticed it & called for the manager.

The only place I always tip is a restaurant or if I order something and have it delivered to my house (food item) which is rare.

On occasion I tip my hairdrsser, but not every visit.....I have a hair cut appointment every month.  When I get my hair colored, I tip.....frankly tipping is out of control.

At the pharmacy?  No...I won't do it.  Coffee bar is different.  I'm happy to drop a tip there, but the pharmacy...no way.

@bowlicious, were you ordering food or groceries?

Yep, tip jars showing up EVERYWHERE!

I for one, have just started to ignore them. I worked fast food all through high school and college, never got a tip. Not once.

I worked retail management for years, and along with all my employees, had to do a lot of loading of heavy furniture etc. and never once was offered a tip, and my folks made near minimum wage, even after years of employment.

$30 to $40 for a hair cut a JC Penney and my mom feels she has to tip. Guy comes to fix the furnace, or install a window,  or cut down some trees,  or put on a new roof, remodel the kitchen, or fix the electrical box.......and it's just expected they are all to be tipped now.

Fast food, the car wash, the ice cream stand that you stand in line for 30 minutes to order, all have tip jars.

It's out of control.

We always tip delivery people.

Both online and at the door.

They are doing a job that keeps us safe while taking risks themselves.
