@Cakers3 I couldn't agree more.    And I'd also include the ridiculous "You can't fix stupid" into the category of sayings I'm SO sick of hearing!   Not to mention people overuse it because they think it's cute when it's not. How is tipping or giving to charity a "stupid" thing?

@KKJ   It isn't and guarantee if the charity hit close to home it would be the reverse-happy to see it, happy to put something in it.

Referring to people as stupid is an easy, immature, and cheap way of making  a statement.

It's all about perception and control-how one views another human being with the expectation the person lives up to what one determines is the protocol to be "smart".

To cakers:  I never expect people to respond but I added that sentence because there have been times when I, and others, have been bashed for an opinion and not always in a nice way.  I was just hoping to head that off at the pass.

@GoneButNotForgotten   I find that people resort to personal attacks when they have nothing of substance to offer.

Good grief!  If you want to tip, tip.  If you dont, then dont tip.  But getting upset because of it is useless.  Just ignore it.

Also, hijacking a thread because someone doesnt think wedding should be on this years calendar is just plain rude and none of your business.

LOL, so now "Tip Jars" can be added to the list of famous topics on this board. I remember the infamous panty hose thread and adding canned soups to recipes thread. Maybe someone remembers all the others. Woman LOL

Several years ago, whenever I went into Walmart - there was a Jar asking for money for a charity. Sooooo annoying - especially when the checkout person asked if u want to leave a tip. I told her that I know a very rich family where she could get lots of money - their name is Walton.

@kivah, I see nothing whatsoever wrong that type of jar at all. If you don't want to donate, that's fine.

Our supermarket has the option when you insert your credit card. You can choose an amount or decline.

I'm with you 100%.

Jars or containers for charity have been around a very, very long time.  I have no issues with that at all.  Sometimes I donate, sometimes I don't.  And I've also had the option you described.  That's the point - It's an option.  No one is forced to part with even a penny if they choose not to.
