I was picking up a prescription at a pharmacy located in a large grocery store chain. There on the counter, where you pay, sat a very large jar marked "tips."
Seriously, at the pharmacy now? Is this a new thing to tip the pharmacist/assistant for putting together your meds and the sale transaction??????
They put it there because some people will be dumb enough to think they are really supposed to leave a tip. Can’t fix stupid...
😂😂. I say that all the time .....Impossible !!!

What's it to you? No one's forced to give but I always do--I know how hard those people work and how little most of them get paid.
So why get your panties in a bunch? It's no skin off your nose
@GoneButNotForgotten Thanks for your thoughtful input.
Have a lovely day!

If you disagree with me that is your prerogative but please don't start sending me negative replies for voicing my opinion.

Wrong! this is a public mb and if you don't want disagreement, the internet is not for you.
What I am shocked at is the really nasty and hostile tone of some of the repsponders who don't want to tip.
Why get so angry and hostile about it? No one is grabbing at your hand and forcing you to tip. You can if you want to, and if you don't want to, you don't have to. geeze!

I found it VERY annoying --- and I'm sure the money is NEVER given to the charity. They removed the tip jar right after that --- u have to complain for them to get the message.
So you're accusing them of stealing??????? I think you'd better notify the store manager and the charity! Wow, you really ARE hostile!

I've never seen this at WM or Meijer where I grocery shop. However, my pharmacy is still doing curbside pickup. I haven't been inside since March.

My DS worked for several years at a family run pizza restaurant. There was a tip jar at the register. Owner Said too time consuming to divide tips so had a picnic on 4th of July for employees. Some years nothing.
Daughter worked at Panera and it was divided by hours worked.
Personally I find it out of line to tip before I have received or tasted food.
I am conflicted with curb side tipping. I feel for employees but feel that my being a customer helping the owner helps employees.

@kivahIt takes far less energy to simply say "No thank you" than it is to do that to an employee who is just doing her job.
The employee isn't asking for herself nor is she looking for "lots of money".
Honestly I just don't understand the angst over this; a little understanding how this employee puts up with negativity all day should make one pause and think before speaking.
Yet you shop there giving the Waltons even more $$,
Go figure.

@kivah How can you be sure the $$ is never given to the charity?
You don't. And that wasn't the point. You were "annoyed"-big deal.
Many people are not annoyed; they put on big pants and just ignore it.
I am not buying that the jar was removed because you picked at the employee. You just are not that important.
Have a nice evening.

@willdob3 So what? It doesn't make a person "dumb" nor does it merit the lame "can't fix stupid".
If somebody thinks they are really supposed to leave a tip, how does that make them stupid??
I look at it as a nice gesture to leave (most likely) a bit of change or even a dollar bill; and the decision belongs to them and them alone.
Just because YOU wouldn't leave one doesn't bump up your IQ either.
Yeesh. It's a jar. Not the code to the nuclear arsenal.

@Cakers3 I couldn't agree more. And I'd also include the ridiculous "You can't fix stupid" into the category of sayings I'm SO sick of hearing! Not to mention people overuse it because they think it's cute when it's not. How is tipping or giving to charity a "stupid" thing?

You can't fix stupid is a good way to dismiss someone you think is behaving badly. Particularly if they're hurting people and it bothers you.
You just categorize it as stupidity rather than malice and it makes it easier to let it go without getting personally angry at the person. Better to think someone stupid or ignorant than to assign them the label of evil or nasty, which is another option.
It's a way to keep things civilized.
But in this instance I don't know of anyone who thinks they have to give to charity drive coffee cans or sticker drives at grocery stores. I don't think anyone really feels they have to. The easily guilt tripped feel that way about a lot in life. Not the grocer's fault.
