I think my very favorite book this year was Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche.

I also liked The Boys in the Boat by Daniel Brown and You Should Have Known by Jean Korelitz.

Re: Time for our Favorite Books of 2014

Love this thread. Thank you for startingSmiley Happy NYT Book Review Review has their 2014 picks today, too. Smiley Happy I haven't read as many books this year as I normally do--usually do around 25, or thereabouts. So far this year, only about 15-16. Out of everything I read this year I really liked The Goldfinch, All the Light We Cannot See, and a lighter, more fun book by Rainbow Rowell titled Landline. Sorry, iPad won't let me bold!

Re: Time for our Favorite Books of 2014

Two by Kate Atkinson top my list:

Behind the Scenes at the Museum and Life after Life.

Other favorites were:

Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kiline

The Cutting Season by Attica Locke.

The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman

The Information Officer by Mark Mills

Read a lot of current books (that generated a lot of "Best Seller' buzz) both for my book club and my own pleasure but none really stood out. If you start a "Least Favorite Books of 2014" thread, I have a lot that could go there.

Re: Time for our Favorite Books of 2014

Hi fellow readers. I'm afraid I'm not very good at keeping lists like some of our posters but here are some books I enjoyed this year. I hope others post as I am in need of some reading inspiration for the long winter ahead! Thanks as always to LAINEY for keeping us on track each month. Thanks to all of you who have given me wonderful reading ideas for a number of years. Reading is such a love of mine, I come here all the time!

Tell the Wolves I'm Home

The Burning Room, Michael Connelly

The Secret Place, Tana French

Revival, Stephen King

The Long Way Home, Louise Penny

Once We Were Brothers, Ronald Balson

Whistling in the Dark, Kazen Lesley

The Weight of Silence, Heather Gudenkaul

Winter of the World, Ken Follette

Jackdaws, Ken Follett

Hopefully some good reading here for you. I have read so much more, I swear next year I will keep a better list ... Oh sure!!!

Happy reading! LM

Also add The Orrenda by Joseph Boyden which will remind some of ONE THOUSAND WHITE WOMEN by Jim Fergus.
