I don't care.

I think I fall into their trap: if a title is all caps, I'll usually look at the thread, wondering what the O.P. is so worked-up about.

@Carmie wrote:I must be super rude then. My screen name is in all caps. It didn't start out that way. Twice when QVC changed the boards, I couldn't sign in. I had to use a new screen name.
The first time I put a number after my name and the second time, I used all caps. I didn't want to use a screen name that was unfamiliar to everyone. I am not saying, " Look at me, look at me."
When I was in school and did reports, it was required that the title be in all caps. Also, when we referenced a book title, it had to be in all caps. Newspaper headlines are often in all caps.
I don't think typing in all caps on a headline on a forum is yelling or saying anything. Some people were just taught to type titles in all caps when they were in school and carried it over to the forums.
I would not type the body of anything in all caps, because it is not a correct way to write, but I know that people that have trouble seeing sometimes do and they also prefer to read when everything is in full caps. I take no offense when someone uses all caps.
I have seen people on here get lambasted for using all caps, when they had no idea it is now considered to be yelling for social media. IMO, that was rude. Nothing like chasing people away when they try their hand on social media for the first time.
Ditto.
Years ago I frequented a message board where a couple people had bad eyesight and a couple others had cataracts. It's quite difficult to read that pale gray text when the font is miniscule.

Who decided this rule and who gave them permission to establish such a rule? Well, no one, really. Someone of no real importance merely said he thought using all caps signified anger and was rude. His opinion!
As many things do, it caught on. Everyone began reprimanding everyone else for using caps.
Well, I will continue using caps when I want to emphasize something. As far as I'm concerned, it does not in any way mean shouting, anger, or rudeness.
If you've never googled "Message Board Etiquette", you're missing the point. You may speculate that someone just made up a bunch of senseless rules, but they are, overall, based on common sense. Capitalized titles are proper form and most people who took English picked that up. All caps in the body of a post is something entirely different.

I didn’t know a thing about the caps rule until I started posting here.I was not very good with typing and often hit the caps lock button..no idea how to stop the caps.People used to ask me why I was always shouting and I didn’t have a clue where they got that idea.LOL.I don’t think of all caps as shouting but I try to understand that opinion.I never shout in my personal life or online.

Thank you for not shouting. ![]()

Whoa! Wasn't the question, why are people using all caps in the title?
Of course, I took English! Hasn't it been required in all schools throughout the U.S.? It was proper to use all caps for titles in my school and college. For creative writing, a few words in the body for emphasis was not improper.
Did you ever see me post in all caps here?
Yes, IMO, making a big deal about this is silly, also sad.
