It is really sad to me how people think about being old in this country. In some countries the elderly are respected and venerated but here is it about the worst thing that can happen to you--if you read these boards.

People are horrified at the thought of getting old. They deny that they are or will ever be old--when age and statistics beg otherwise. If you don't get old you get dead--not much of a selection here.

Does life cease to be special if you look old or act old? Do we just ignore people who don't look "young?" If you yourself look, act, or dress old does that make you less special as a person? Less loved, less valued? Someone wearing some kind of clothing that others don't like? Look through the clothing to the person inside. That's what matters.

It brings me to tears sometimes to see how much bashing goes on here of anyone perceived as "matronly" or "looking old." What nonsense. I've loved and treasured lots of old dowdy ladies in my life and hope when I get to be one someone will love and cherish me too. It isn't far off! And I hope I will have more to think about and do for and with others than stress over what I look like.
