Re: Thoughts and prayers for our Northern Friends

Veteran Affairs Minister Julian Fantino told QMI Agency that Parliament’s sergeant-at-arms, Kevin Vickers, shot one gunman dead.

“All the details are not in, but the sergeant-at-arms, a former Mountie, is the one that engaged the gunman, or one of them at least, and stopped this,” Fantino said from inside Centre Block. “He did a great job and, from what I know, shot the gunman and he is now deceased.”

Okay, my news was not from Fox. I am okay with knowing that the gunman was neutralized.

Report says first suspect was shot by a Cdn soldier.

Veterans Affairs Minister Julian Fantino, former head of the Ontario Provincial Police and ex-Toronto chief of police: "I am safe & profoundly grateful to Sgt at Arms Kevin Vickers & our security forces for selfless act of keeping us safe."

Like StrayKatz, our family is shaken up, all Canadians are right now. Lots of confusion and anger.

Cars leaving Ottawa are being searched.

Heard from my cousin, she is deeply shaken but fine. She loves Ottawa and is a proud Canadian and today is such a dark day for the city and the country.

Would it be wrong of me to comment on how differently these events are viewed by Canadians and Americans?
