Re: Thoughts Regarding Name Change for Diet Sodas

I'm not emotionally invested in the name of products. I never understand why people get their knickers in a twist when companies change their branding. Also I'm a boomer who is tired of millennial bashing.

Re: Thoughts Regarding Name Change for Diet Sodas

Diet sodas are extremely fizzy, more  so than sugared sodas. i drink neither, because A. i hate the fake "diet" taste and B. HFCS has changed sodas to be overly sweet and syrupy. Sometimes i can find a small bottle of cream soda or  ginger ale with real cane sugar - will have that as a treat.

i drink plain water and i do have a glass of plain seltzer after dinner.

i can't see spending good money on sugar water as it just makes you more thirsty.  my mother used the "thirsty" argument when we were kids...she was right...

I would hope they are still clearly identified as "diet" or "sugar free"!

I stay far away from "diet" and sugar free food and drink.  My body doesn't tolerate artificial sweeteners.

I don’t care what they call it. As a Gen-X’er, I wish the boomers and millennials would just make nice. It’s exhausting.

My science teacher in high school once asked the question:  "Ever wonder why the word die is in diet?"  Never forgot that to this day. That was back in the days of saccharine and other awful things they put in food and called it "diet".

Same here ... but I have one more to add to the stupidity ...

Some real estate people no longer use the term "master bedroom" when showing houses because someone might find it "offensive".  Now they use the term "main bedroom".

Go figure.

I read men are more likely to buy 0 rather than diet labored soft drinks.  Don't negate the male ego.

@mspatmac    This is true and I have read the same regarding men and the word "diet" on soda (or other food items).

The word "diet" was looked at as gender specific and marketing featured women, not men.

I just heard on TV that major soda companies are dropping the word "diet" from sodas. They said millenniums don't relate or like that name. So now it will either be zero or sugar free. I've drank diet sodas for more years than I can count and the word diet never bothered me. I don't know what the big deal is. I know some sodas already use the word Zero. What are your thoughts if you have any.?

@Leeny

I think it's a tad amusing.   When I see the word Diet on sodas, all it means is that you don't have to worry about sugar in the product.   Sugar is nothing but empty calories, but can actually be dangerous to some diabetics.

I'm not a huge fan of Dr Oz, but he said one thing I agree with ...."don't drink your calories".

The high fructose corn syrup in regular pop is horrible for your body as well. It's not like mainstream brands like Coke and Pepsi use cane sugar in their non-specialty drinks.
