My mom had the second eye done recently.

She said the surgeries (with sedation) were a breeze. She is, however, disappointed with the results.

Her doc told her she wouldn't need glasses to drive anymore. That has not turned out to be the case. She now needs a pair of regular glasses to drive, along with a pair of readers for reading. So...she now needs 2 pairs of glasses instead of one.

She seems so dissatisfied with her results...but she insists that the surgeon is a great surgeon, and that I should get Lasik from this guy. I can't make sense of what her thinking process is...but she said she didn't have pain, so take what I'm saying for what it's worth.

Hi mistri, could your Mom get bifocals instead of having to wear two pairs of glasses?

I'm not sure.

I wondered that too, but the detour into Crazytown left me dazed and confused, and I forgot to ask.

and Still- My paper says I will get an IV with drugs to calm me (not to put to sleep). MIL had the IV hook up but never needed the drugs to calm but my paper says I get them. (Id rather not have them bc I need to take my back pain pills to get thru it because I am in chronic pain daily, still have to find out @ my next pre-op apt if I can take them day of surgery).

But I will be living at the eye surgeons =2 X for surgery + 2X post op + 2 more visits after Im all done = 6 visits.

hmmm... no IV, no sedation, didn't need it, was never offered it- perhaps your Dr feels you need it (or that EVERYONE does), at any rate, I didn't need it and if you do, please take advantage of it! I am also not in any type of chronic pain as you are, and I am sure that could be a factor-

I had a couple pre op visits,one where i was diagnosed, then one where I was measured, then the surgery, went back the next day and then a week later...

I know I was anxious before I h it done, but m so happy with the results..agaoin, I only have on eye, i have talked to some that have the "normal" two eyes, and they weren't happy till they had both done (if indeed they needed it in both eyes)

Ironically, the Dr later told me the lens in my blind eye was clear, and there was no cataract in IT..weird huh? (left eye)

My father had both eyes done (a few months apart) when he was over 80. He had no sedation and had the more expensive lens inserted. He'd worn glasses for over 40 years so it was an adjustment not to reach for them. He was extremely pleased with his results .

I had my surgery in March.I do have glycoma which may cause more concern.....The surgery went really well.Had IV and local.No pain of any kind other than a black eye for aweek....I had Laser surgery on the other eye to reduce the pressure and will have that cataract removed in the summer...I was interested if anyone else may have had my problem....keeping the pressure down is so important and it will be another month before I know if the laser was sucessful.Pressure is 16 and 17 and he wants it down to 15 in each eye....had it down to 13 but became allergic to med...I don't wear my glasses unless Im driving and for some reading I use readers........

Thanks again for the replies. I am nervous too Lindsays Grandma. Sounds like we are in the same boat with all our issues. I will let you know once I get the 1st eye done (last Tues in May).

Still- MIL didn't need the calming drugs (and shes a nervous person). Well..they told me Im getting them. Maybe I need them? lol. I tend to be anxious.

Mistri I know someone who had issues afterwards. (She got a detached retina). I hope that doesn't happen to me!

To the others about glasses- they said I will need glasses yet (but I don't mind.lol) I remember when my dad had it done he didn't need his glasses anymore.

My sister had her second eye done yesterday and her first eye is progressing nicely. The first eye which happened to be her worst eye is now 20/30 and will be at 20/20, her entire experience was wonderful.

I had a detached retina which in turn caused a cataract. My Dr gave me a calming medicine and I don't remember one thing. Just let your Dr know that you are nervous.
