Are you still working from home or does your employer have plans for you to go back to the office?  Do you work better at home or from the office?

I've been working from home since March 2020.  My employer plans on "releasing" us back to the office September 1st.  However, it has worked so well that most of us will continue to WFM and go into the office maybe one day a week.

Personally, not having to get ready every morning and drive to downtown Memphis everyday has saved a lot of time (and gas).  I've been able to get a lot more work accomplished.  It's been a blessing for me.

What are your plans?

I am still working from home 99% of the time.  I need to go in occasionally because my work has a small amount of government paper forms that process through good old US Mail.

Prior to this I had a flexible schedule and could go in when needed and work from home when needed.  I felt that I worked better in the office when I had a major task to do that needed concentration or space or if I needed to be motivated a little to get moving

I'm finding now that I can't work in the office at all.  It's too distracting with the few people who are in the office.  They want to chat, have a million questions and keep interrupting me.  Plus, all my stuff is at home now, so I would have to drag a bunch of stuff in to work on a task.  I'm definitely more productive at home than I have ever been.

I believe we will be asked to stay home again soon, probably before Labor Day weekend to offset the usual spike due to holidays.

I have not bought any clothes in 18 months.  I just bought 2 new zip jackets from Talbots so that my co-workers will not get bored with the white and black one I wear to every meeting.  LOL

I have mixed feelings about WFH. Already our retail stores have been shuttering--imagine what this will do to office space.

A case in point--Target corporate headquarters is located in my city and they are not renewing their lease downtown for 1M sq ft of office space. Employees will either WFH or be relocated. This will  tremendously impact neighboring businesses/restaurants, etc., who depend on that foot traffic to stay solvent.

The bottom line is this. I thrive on being surrounded by "life" -- be it lots of residential/retail/restaurants/office space, people, and yes, even traffic. My fear is our cities will dry up and we will soon become prisoners in our own homes.

@magicmoodz , these are very good points about the businesses and restaurants.  We've seen that happen in our town when our steel mill shuttered.   Many businesses surrounded the mill ended up closed as well.

@VaBelle35 , you also make good points.  LOL  There are weeks that I go into the office on Saturday to get more done.  I am in an office by myself.  The secretaries are in a common area and one is not far outside my door. There are days they talk so much, and not about work, that it is super distracting and very hard to concentrate and get things done.  Monday mornings are the worst because they have to sit out there and talk about their weekends.  Honestly there are days I want to open my office door and ask them to please stop talking.  LOL

I never left the office as well.  In fact I just went down to the bank lobby in my building to cash a check and they have removed the social distancing circles that were on the floor since they reopened.  It was so strange to not see them after all this time.

I had to call a utility company last week on a billing error for us last week and I could hear the woman's dog barking in the back ground.

Funny you said that, because last week my Internet service went out, which is a definite no..no when working from home. While online with tech support for my service provider, who was also working from home. His cat kept meowing. He had the noisiest cat ever. I found it amusing, and the tech rep and I laughed about it. He said whenever the cat is quiet he wonders what is wrong with it. Like I said it did not bother me, but I was thinking I hope you put that cat up when you are having meetings. It was very distracting.
