Those little blue squares . . . .

What's with these little blue squares?  They are showing up everywhere on my computer, and no matter what I do to them, I get nothing.  I assume they hold pictures, but when I click on them, nothing happens.   I get no pictures or other info.  Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong, or what I need to do in order to "open" their information?

@Perkup That happens to me when I am at work and trying to look at a photo on the forum. Our company blocks Facebook, so I think those photos were taken/copied from Facebook. I could be wrong on this, but I do know when I get home from work, I can see the photos that were little blue squares on my computer at work.

@Perkup, it would help to have details, such as what kind of device you use, does this only happen when you're browsing on websites -- and, if so, what browser are you using,  does it look the same whether you're signed in or not,  when did the problem start and did you change anything on your device prior to the onset...   that sort of thing.

I'll take a shot in the dark, and ask if this is the "little blue square" you see, or something of this nature:

broken image icon in google chrome browser - Broken image icon in Google Chrome browser

This is called a "broken image icon" -- unfortunately, you might not be able to see the image I posted...  if you can't see it, then try a search for "broken image icon."

If it's only when you're on a website, be sure you have the most up-to-date browser version and also that you've cleared all cookies/cache/website data.   (Having at least one other browser installed and up-to-date is a good idea, too, so you can compare with a different one when there are problems.)    You also might need to look at the browser settings, and possibly the addons/extensions you've enabled, to be sure you're not blocking image display.

I've been very much "under the weather" for a couple of days and just happened to see your thread...  so I'm  not sure I can return anytime soon.

If the image I posted looks similar to what you're seeing, just do an internet search for "broken image icon" for your device type and browser and you'll see more detailed information about troubleshooting the problem.   Or, others here can help with ideas.

I'm sorry you're having problems -- it can be aggravating, for sure.

@World Traveler   In some cases, that happens because the device or software we're using, or the settings, cannot properly interpret the code and display the digital images, which are "remote images" and actually copied and pasted and internally linked to another website.    As you noted, the images might be on a site with certain permissions, limited access, or they require a login, etc., to be able to see them.

That's why some of the images here on the Q show up as broken images, because they've been copied and pasted rather than uploaded using the "Insert/edit image" icon in the dialogue box toolbar.
