Not surprising to me that these are germ fests, but to me, the real problem with those hair dryers is hearing loss..the decibel level of them is extraordinary and a person really does need to use ear protection to prevent damage to ears.

So Dyson is wrong. This explains why I hate their products so much.

The hand dryers and so called air sanitizers were pushed hard by the environmental lobby years ago under the premise of "going green" The underlying science they cited was that this would solve an environmental crisis of cutting down trees for paper goods. What was failed to realize at the time was all the electricity that would be needed to power the units and finally it is "growing trees" that provide the needed O2 while consuming CO2.
So, here we are with all the unintended consequences of this little experiment. Follow the line of the money.

The only place these days where I have to use the bathroom, it is the hospital when I go to see my oncologist. They have very safe use for us to dry our hands.....all you have to do is put your hand under the paper towel holder and the come out each time you take your hand away and put it back to get more paper towel. I always get enough so that I can open the door without using my freshly washed and dried hands.....then toss it in the trash can one the door is open and I leave. More important is how we wash our hands. I use plenty soap and am very careful doing this. Rinse my hands thoroughly.
Just can't be too safe these days.

@Deanie. There are lobbyists on each side of the equation. And guess what? They All stink! ALL of them!

There is a really simple alternative to the hand drying machines and/or paper towels. Carry your own anti-bacterial towelettes and hand sanitizer gel. Use the wipes when you need to touch any surface such as door handles, then toss into the trash.

@this is my nic.......I faithfully use the hand sanitizer gel....always have a bottle of it in my purse. Don't like to over load my purse with things I really don't need. Try to keep it as light as I can.....as I take it with me on the tray that is on my walker..... The paper towels usually do the trick for me when I open the door.....managing a walker in and out of the bathroom is difficult enough.

Sheldon: I had to sanitize my hands because the university replaced the paper towels in the rest rooms with hot air blowers.
Penny: I thought the blowers were more sanitary?
Leonard and Howard: Why? Don’t!
Sheldon: Hot air blowers are incubators and spewers of bacteria and pestilence. Frankly it would be more hygienic if they just had a plague infested gibbon sneeze my hands dry.

I have never liked those blowers and avoid using them. Just give me a paper towel......

I've never liked them just because they don't work well.
But I am surprised at how many here seem almost obsessed about germs. You can wear gloves and wipe stuff down, etc., to your heart's content, but it really only placates you.
You simply cannot guard yourself from all the nasties out there. I take reasonable steps (e.g., cleanse after handling raw meat and poultry), but I still live my life without worrying about getting sick.
