Re: This why I don't like to go to concerts or anywhere else anymore

Sounds like everyone on this thread has had really bad luck at the movies and concerts.  I go to plays and the movies often and never have had any of these problems.

Wow, I'm so sorry for everyone who has had these horrible experiences.  DH & I go to a lot of movies and plays, mostly good experiences.  We just returned from seeing the latest James Bond movie this afternoon, and everyone sat quietly in their seats and enjoyed the show.  I've had only one bad experience, a couple of years ago, with a young woman next to me who kept texting throughout the whole movie.  Asking nicely for her to stop just got me a rude reply, and she kept it up.  I was furious, but it didn't stop us from going to the movies, and it hasn't happened again.  I do feel bad for those who feel they have to stay in their houses all of the time rather than being around other people.  I want to be out and about.  But to each her own.

She was probably drunk. Id be annoyed too if that's the case (or not). Id rather hear 10 kids crying then put up with a drunk!

We haven't been to concerts lately. But the last time we went yes everyone stands, it didn't bother me, I just sit when I have to (due to my back issues) then get up again. lol.

As far as movies (that others are mentioning) we go almost every week. We go to the earliest show on Sundays. Its always fairly empty or totally empty, in fact we went today @ noon, and we were the only ones in the theatre! Another tip is, dont go to a movie when it first opens, its always busy then, go a week later.

Re: This why I don't like to go to concerts or anywhere else anymore

I have had pretty good luck, but when I have had a problem..it has been with drunks.  One time I remember was at the Elton John Red Piano concert in Vegas.  The tickets back then were over 300 bucks@, and they were decent seats.  But then as the show started, here they come..LATE, laughing talking, 4 drunks..  They continued through the concert.  A couple times someone in back of them said, Shut UP! and they were quiet for a few seconds,.  Then the lady started complaining that it was a concert, who told them to shut . They were late 40's , early 50's.  The one woman was very pretty, but became ugly in my eyes as the night progressed. One of the men kept passing stinky gas, and made it all the worse

Then there was one musical we went to see the granddaughter in.  Some children were seated close to the stage.  They talked loud through the whole thing, parents just catering to them.  They even went up to the stage and were trying to get up during one of the dance numbers!  A stage manager came and directed the parents to take charge of the kids.  She was kind of offended.  She was one of those parents (very few parents thank the Lord) who doesn't believe in discipline.  She catered to their experimentation, questions and antics, as if the cast was giving her a private performance and her kids were the only audience.  The cast was really irritated, as it was so distracting . They were talking about it after play  Good stage experience I guess though!

That's the key to the whole thing.  How you bring up your kids. Why we have people running around with the idea it's all about them. Re: This why I don't like to go to concerts or anywhere else anymore

I like the movies more these days because the local theaters now have stadium seats. They're comfy and give you plenty of room to stretch out. What I don't like is that they're TOO comfortable. A few times I felt myseld dozing off zzzzzzz

As far as concerts and Broadway plays, I'm not that anxious to go anymore. At concerts I've had my fill of seats where I can't see over the heads in front of me, and people in front of me standing through the whole show, and winding up watching the concert on the jumbo screens. For Broadway, the prices are exorbitant (up to $200+ per ticket plus parking). I'm just not that anxious to go anymore.

The problem is people don't have any manners anymore. I stopped going to the movies and Broadway plays. I was in NY last year to see a Broadway play and people were yelling at the actors when there was silence in the scene!!! People had their phones ring and some even answered their phone. Where was security?? One actor spoke to the audience to remain silent and people started talking. They ruin it for everyone else.

Bellieve me, this is not common at all.  I go to Broadway shows all the time - several times a month - and I have never had an experience anything like this.

I also go to movies and concerts and lots of other places, and the only problem I can think of was this summer, when the venue's Security were so excited to see the performer at a concert that they stood in front of us and blocked my view, and we had to ask them to move out of the way.  But I go out and do things all the time.  I've never had an experience that would cause me to swear all of that off and just stay home.

Indeed. I find YouTube, and also Facebook, to be egocentric and narcissistic. And parents who are self-absorbed raise their children to turn out the same way. That begets the "hooray for me, and to heck with you" attitude l spoke or earlier, being passed down from one generation to the next. So l can't see this problem ever changing for the better. :-(
