When i had back surgery in 2004 in Pittsburgh i saw the surgeon and said i would have the operation then he got out his schedule book and I had to wait 7 months for an available date. When i had my ankle surgery - at the same hospital -in 2008 i had to wait 5 months for the date from when I scheduled it. Well now i have the displeasure of needing both knees replaced and I saw the doctor last week. He told me to decide when i want the operation and call his PA to schedule it. So i discussed it with my hubby and we decided that late Oct or early Nov would be a good time and i called the nurse to schedule it. She said i couldn't schedule surgery this far ahead and I'd have to see the doctor again in the fall but then it would only take about a week to schedule it. Now i don't know what to make of that. I knew the doctors who did my previous surgeries well and had carefully selected who i felt was the absolute best in his field and so i was willing to wait as long as it takes. Now i don't know this doctor at all, he was recommended by my PCP,and I looked up his credentials which were good. But if he is a very good surgeon why wouldn't he be more in demand? Why is he available in a weeks notice? Opinons?
